Great unit for the price, good size, great integration. We love it. Pay to get it installed correctly.
The short: I am loving this DVD player. So far, zero problems and it works beautifully with a professional install. My children are completely thrilled. The Long: I had the hardest time trying to find a DVD player for our van. It seemed like the reviews were so mixed. The last thing I wanted was to get one that didn't work well after paying all of that money. I didn't want a tiny screen, but I didn't want a humungous one either. My husband pointed out that people often don't write positive reviews, only negative ones when they are upset. So, I swore if I got one that I loved, I'd write a review and hopefully help someone else out. I thought this was a good "Medium" sized one. When I actually got it, it was a bit bigger than I expected, which turns out, wasn't a bad thing. I was worried that if the screen was too big it would block the rearview mirror, but then I found out that ALL DVD systems block the rearview mirror when they are folded down for viewing. The unit hangs down about 11 and 1/4 inches from the roof and is about 13" wide. You learn to lift it to see out the back and then pull it back down, or use your side mirrors, so it isn't an issue. I read some reviews that said the DVD players come broken, and after an expensive install they had to pay to uninstall it and return it. This can easily be avoided by simply asking for the technician doing the install to check the unit before installing it or tearing apart your vehicle. They can "plug" it directly into your car battery and test it, or use other methods. Then, if it's in working order it can be installed, if not you can return it and get a working one before going through the hassle of getting it installed and then removed. Luckily, we didn't have any issues ourselves. HOWEVER, make sure that you go to a place that knows what they are doing to get your DVD player installed. I had called the closest Best Buy to me to get our installed through the Geek Squad and when we got there the "kid" saw our sun roof and said "oh, I can't do that. Well, I can...but I'll have to put it a lot further back, like almost to the third row seat because we can't mess up the functionality of any of the vehicle parts". My husband said he needed to think about it, then the kid admitted he'd never done a DVD install before, that he just does stereos. He told us to call a different guy at the Sandy, UT Best Buy location (Rick, I think) and see if he could do it. So, after losing our appointment and knowing that we might be told the same thing, we called the Sandy Best Buy's Geek Squad. Rick (again, not 100% sure that was his name) told me that he could do it, no problem and actually had an hour and a half window that night and we could go get it done. The other store had quoted us 3 hours! A little over an hour and a half later, we had the DVD player installed, where we wanted it (right behind the 1st row of seats...behind the driver/passenger) and it doesn't interfere at all with the functionality of the sunroof. We did have to pay an extra $20 to have a bracket built to put the DVD player on, but that's small potatoes after all was said and done to have it taken care of properly. It's working great and we all love it. I'm thrilled with it. Oh, the volume on the actual unit is pretty pitiful, but if you connect it through the car stereo it's beautiful and crisp. Honestly, it doesn't make sense to listen to it through the unit anyway because once you are driving, the sound from the road and "wind" and everything else would cause so much interference for those not sitting directly by the unit, so having it come through the car speakers just makes sense. Yes, I'd rather be listening to the radio than the kids movies, but alternate, they have to earn a movie by getting in their seats quickly and without complaining, so it works for us. We trade off. Anyway, this really is a great unit. I've had it installed for over a month now and love it. If anything breaks on this, or I have issues I'll be sure to update my review.

AudioVox makes a nice Car TV/DVD
I installed the Audiovox Movies2Go AVXMTG10U in my 2004 Ford Excursion. It replaced a Sony MV900DS Overhead DVD/TV that was in the truck when we bought it in 2008. The Sony worked great until the last 6-months when it would skip and shut-off at random times. It also had a hard time reading the disc when the unit was hot or cold after sitting all night in Winter or Summer. Taking the Sony down was relativity simple. And since there was already wiring there for the Sony, I didn't need to tap into a dome light or run new wiring back under the dash for power. I want my kids to use wireless headphones (The ones from the old Sony player work fine with the Audiovox) so I had no interest in modulating the audio to an FM channel or wiring the sound directly to the head unit in the dash. One of the joys of the "TV in the car" is the quiet you get when all the kids are watching a movie using the headphones. The installation for most people is going to be a royal pain. Audiovox tries to help be giving you a metal mounting plate with lots of screw holes that you have to attach to the ceiling of the Car. In theory, if you are placing the AudioVox where a dome light or other ceiling mounted item was, then there will be a roof support bar to attach the mounting plate to. However since every car ceiling is different, plan on having to make a trip to a hardware store to get the right length and size screws. I was able to find a pair of 2.5" self tapping screws and run them up into the roof support bar. Once I figured out what I was going to do and bought the screws, it only took a few minutes to have the mounting plate up. The wiring is also not straightforward. Audiovox uses a 6 pin connector. From that connector are 5 wires. A red wire for 12v power and a black wire for ground. Then there is a purple/black stripe wire, red/black stripe wire and a black/blue stripe wire. These are all used to either cut power to the unit when the ignition is turned off and turn on/off the dome lights on the side of the Audiovox. My solution was to run the red and red/black strip to the white wire from the truck (12v power) and the Black and black/blue stripe wire to the black wire from the truck (Ground). I put a wire nut over the purple wire. What this gives me is the Audiovox has no power when the ignition is off., has power with the ignition on, and allows you to manually turn on and off the lights on the front of the Audiovox by sliding the switch on the side of the unit. As for the trim, Audiovox gives you 3 trim color to choose from. My unit came with all 3 included. I am not sure if this is normal as the box shows 3 different model number for the 3 different colors, but I got all 3 trim kits. I chose to use the Shale color since our interior is tan. The old Sony was a light gray color and the new AudioVox looks much nicer. Almost looks like it was factory installed. As for the picture...it is really nice. I was surprised how much clearer and brighter the picture was than the old Sony. I was also pleased to see that the side angle viewing was much improved since this unit cannot swivel side to side, just front to back. The sound over the wireless headphones is about the same as the Sony player, which makes sense since the headphones are controlling most of the sound quality. (We use the Sony MDR-IF240RK Wireless Headphones without the base. They will run on just an AAA battery and work great). Overall this looks like a good Overhead DVD/TV. Time will tell if it is durable, but the picture quality is a big improvement over the old Sony. The side angle viewing makes it easy for people sitting on the ends of the second row to still see the screen well. And the choice of trim color is a big improvement.

Good device and good picture.
I purchased this overhead DVD player as a replacement for the previous one that my kids wore out. It matches great with the interior color of my car and has 3 different colors to choose from. The screen is a great size (kind of blocks the rear view a little but doable) and the picture quality is very good. My kids love it and turn it on the minute they get in the car. The handy remote control is a little small but convenient. Road trips here we go.. I could not live without one of these in a car with 2 rambunctious kids.. Has many more features to add radio connection but I did not get that installed. The LED light is nice but a little weak!
