I purchased a pair of the Cates ratcheting pruners for my 85 yr old mom in 2017 the ratchet enabled her to spend time gardening something she loves and enjoys.So when she called me to say she needed me to fix them this spring ( missing nut and bolt.I sent an email to Family Matters and asked about the possibilities of them getting me the proper bolt.They responded that day, and informed me they would replace them with a new pair, two days latter my moms new Cates ratcheting pruning shears arrived as promised,I had to update my review because of the exemplary customer service Chris at Family Matters provided to me, I would like to thank them again, and my mom is extremely thankful as one can imagine.Thanks againSteve

These pruners cut through some fairly large (3/4) branches with their well-designed ratchet system. I used them for over 2 years on pretty much a daily basis as I spend a lot of time in my yards.Today, while finishing up a very large bush that needed cutting back to 12" from the ground, the ratchet pin came off. Couldn't find it so I couldn't tell if it had broken or just fell into the trash barrel.The good news is that I contacted the seller, Cates Garden, and within a couple of hours, they emailed me to let me know that they are mailing me a new pair of pruners ASAP.Now THAT'S good customer service!

I like that these clippers fit comfortably. And have the closed handle. I am 63 yo and tend to drop things so the closed handle helps with that. And the mechanison works very smoothly.

When I first used these pruners, they we very uncomfortable. I am a woman with large hands and the grip seemed too hard to reach and clamping down was hard. After using it for a few hours, it loosened up and became very comfortable to use. These are great and I would recommend them to persons with large hands. The one negative is the cutting blade is black which makes it difficult to see when pruning in leafy or highly branched plants. Coloring it orange would make it much more visible.

I bought these hand clippers because they are the exact replica of a pair I bought at a home and Garden show in Seattle, 10 years ago. They finally wore out, and I was very happy to find the pair I bought online. Unfortunately, however, they are difficult to use. First, to snip a small rose, you must use just the tip of the clippers. If you use the clippers all the way up the blade, it will only shred the cane on the rose bush.But even more frustrating is that the clippers don’t spring open after each cut. I’m hoping that these are just defective and that not everyone had this problem. I will try to send them back.

I was familiar with ratcheting pruners and bought them as a birthday gift for my sister. She has arthritis in her hands and has been having a very hard time keeping up with the bushes constantly sprouting all around the house. From the very first time that she used them, she was just amazed at how easy it was to cut the branches and new growth. The pressure stays on the pruner, not your hand!! And the sleek design feels good in your hand.I’m buying a pair for myself and will definitely get some for my friends!!

Recieved these in late July of 2017. As I bagan spring pruning in 2018, the pin broake and shears are now useless. LOVED them until they broke!Update- received an email from the shipper and they have informed me that they are sending a replacement pair!! Whoo-hoo! As soon as I receive them, I will update this review with more stars(original review had only 1 star)!Within ONE WEEK of reaching out to the company, I received a replacement set of pruners! Incredibly impressed with response time and “no hassle” replacement!These pruners are terrific- SO GLAD the company is just as fantastic!

These hand pruners became dull after 4 uses! The cutting blades must be made of very poor metal, maybe pot metal. They are not worth any amount! Stay with a well-known brand and don't throw away your dollars! I've been gardening for more than a few decades and have had several good hand pruners, going back to those!
