Nervous at first... but perfect for my Newf.
I love my 150lb, 3 year old Newfoundland, but sometimes he's a jerk. I bought this bed for him seeing that he was always just laying on the concrete. He's never been comfortable with a conventionally padded bed, I think because with all the extra skin and fur, he just overheats too easily. I've always figured that's why he chose to lay on the concrete. However, Newfies, like many dogs, are prone to joint injuries as they get older, and laying on the concrete can't be helping that. So I wanted a bed that would be comfortable, but durable, yet big enough for him (I did get the XXL) and keep could keep him cool. I was pretty sure that combination just didn't exist. I can't remember where I first saw the Kuranda bed, but when I did, it all clicked. I selected the breathable mesh so he wouldn't overheat (which I thought he might on the vinyl), and so when he comes in and he's SOPPING wet, he might dry off faster. I put it all together (easy assembly), and put it down in front of him expecting him to be just SOOO appreciative. He just looked at it, hung his head, and walked away..."(EXPLETIVE)! Another $160 some-odd bucks spent on this giant (expletive) and he doesn't even (expletive) use the (expletive) thing!" I thought. But I kept it around. I'd occasionally tell him to get on it and give him a treat if he did, but he'd jump right back off, and sleep on the concrete. I figured I'd give it 6 months or so and if he just never adapted, I'd give it to a shelter. I didn't want to force him to stay on it after all if it just wasn't comfortable for him. After about two months, he FINALLY is using it through the night. I really didn't even have to keep bribing him with treats, it's like he just needed time to realize it was his and get used to it. He actually seems to really enjoy it now. He used to get up when he'd hear me coming down the stairs, now he just stays in bed. Couldn't be happier. Well done Kuranda. Well done.

You get what you pay for
You get what you pay for. No comparison to the cheap beds I've tried.I have a 120 pound lab and the bed is solid as a rock.Pay attention the the bed material though. There is a breathable mesh that is cooler to lay on and a NON-breathable vinyl that is more durable but less comfortable for the dog.My only complain is there is not obvious place to order replacement cloth. The frame is over build and surly will out live the cloth and I'd like to keep a spare around for the distant future. Also, since the legs are under the bed, the total size is smaller than the cheap beds with legs that bow out... even though the BED is bigger, the foot print is smaller.Wish I had just spent the money and gotten one years ago instead of wasting money constantly replacing the cloth on the cheap beds.

Indestructable, even with voracious chewers!
So let me start with our canine crew. We have 5 pugs or pug derivatives (Boston Terrier/Pug mixes) and a gigantic fluffy white Great Pyrenees. The Pyrenees is just now 1 year old, around 135 lbs., but still chewing everything he can get his paws on! He has chewed the leg off of the kitchen table, the walls, anything "accidentally" left on the kitchen counter overnight.....even an entire pair of industrial rubber boots. Entirely....gone. I bought two of the XXL beds to accommodate all of the dogs. It has been stated in other reviews to pay attention to the bed material you purchase. I would agree, I also purchased the vinyl weave to allow a cooler bed surface and it has truly made a difference in how much my dogs enjoy the product. The pugs are double coated and the Pyrenees has an abundance of thick hair. The vinyl weave serves to keep them cool and guarantees they will use the bed. Previously I had built two beds out of PVC and purchased heavy grade outdoor fabric for the bedding surface (all of which ended up costing close to what an XXL bed runs) and they would paw and scratch at the fabric until they shredded it. I replaced (cut new pattern, sewed, routed wood dowels, etc.) the fabric three times. I finally got frustrated and decided to buy the Karunda that I had seen used at our local animal shelters. The XXL beds are HUGE! All 5 of the pugs sleep on one and the Pyrenees sleeps on the other, all with plenty of room to spare. Every now and then, I catch one of our pugs (The little black Pyrenees buddy) snuggled up with the Pyrenees on his bed. Not a sign of wear on either bed and they somehow don't paw or scratch on the woven vinyl material. I think it was more due to the fabric storing smells that they liked to scratch and bring up to lay in. The vinyl seems to stay clean and not hold in any odors. In fact, when they come in after a rainy day and lay in the beds, I notice that any dirt that dries falls through the bedding and settles on the floor beneath it. Just move the bed, sweep up the dirt and everything is clean again! I purchased the blue woven vinyl and it is a beautiful and modern addition to our kitchen décor. I also purchased the foam bedding pads that go with these beds and they were of terrific quality. Unfortunately with the chewer they lasted less than a day! That was an expensive lesson learned. The good news, though, is that the beds still look brand new after several months of use. These beds retail for a little more than the knock-offs, but you can buy this product with confidence. I will never purchase another dog bed that isn't a Karunda bed!

Perfect bed for our big, bed-destroying pup
We ordered this bed after our Great Dane puppy went through 7 beds in 7 days and we are SO happy we did! The bed frame is sturdy, which is key for our 140-lb (and growing!) pup. The fabric will wipe clean easily and the edges are hidden so he can’t pick at the fabric. Its incredibly easy to assemble, as well, and is lightweight enough to carry from room to room. I do wish it was a bit bigger (size in picture is XXL), but our Dane still fits on this one just fine. I wish we had ordered this one much, much sooner and saved ourselves much frustration.

Could not assemble the bed.
The product seemed very sturdy. Put it together and was really disappointed and frustrated when I could not screw the legs into the bed. There were no holes drilled into the aluminum legs to attach the bed together. I drilled my own holes and could not get the screws more than half way through. 3 hours later, I disassembled the bed and returned it for a refund. It came highly recommended, unfortunately we could not put it together.

Bought a second one!
Originally bought one for my older 150 pound dog. He took a couple of days to start using it but once he did, he loved it! It has held up well so far. It is a little hard to assemble - the screws for the legs can get real hard to tighten down. But other than that, I loved it so much I bought a second one for my other dog!
