Oscar de la Renta: His Legendary World of Style

Beautiful book from cover to cover!

Too gorgeous to open up from the clear wrap! The most beautiful book Cover Front and back that I have ever seen and it’s much larger than I thought but beautiful. I’m almost not even sure if I’m going to open it very soon I’m going to wait until my new cabinets come!

I was sad to hear of the passing of Oscar de la Renta. His designs were pure elegance and so was he. This book is the exhibition catalog of his “retrospective” at the Savannah College of Art and Design(SCAD). There is a nice essay by the author as one of his longtime fans and supporter and a few other love letters are also included in the book. What makes this special is that there is not only photos and stories of the clients and celebrities wearing his designs but they are accompanied by beautiful clear recent images the dresses. I will say that the designs are mostly recent. Of the 70 dresses profiled in the exhibition only a handful are before 2000. For a man with such a long career I would have expected to see more from his earlier years.

I love this book so much. I’ve been a fan of Oscar de la Renta for so long and was devastated when he passed. This book is an excellent tribute to him and gave me a better perspective of who he was as a person and what inspired his designs. The pictures from the exhibit are great quality as well. This book also looks great on my coffee table!

An informative book with good, clear photographs of the gowns. I got this book for my mom when I went to the Oscar de la Renta exhibit at the MFAH. The official companion book the museum was selling to go with the exhibit did not contain many clear photos of the dresses in the exhibit, but I found that this book had much better pictures of the dress in the show.
