Works great for me.
I bought this for my Lenovo G50 laptop.Since I had no use for the DVD drive but wanted more storage space, this thing looked to be exactly what I needed. This laptop came with a 500 gb 5400 rpm drive. It worked, but was slow. I had an old 60 gig SSD laying around that I was not using, so I figured I will use that. 60 gigs is about enough for the OS and basic programs and storage, but I wanted to have my music collection with me as well as just not have to worry about deciding what I wanted to keep on the computer. I decided to buy an adapter to put the 500 gig HDD into to keep using that for storage.I bought this based on many positive reviews and price. When it came in, I looked at the install instructions and it was mentioning some retention lever, I could not find one, nor anything off hand to keep the HDD in place inside the adapter. After staring at it for a minute, and seeing the included screwdriver, I realized there were some small holes in the side that the screwdriver just fit into, and inside there were some retaining screws. Just put the HDD/SSD in the adapter, slide it into place, then tighten the screws and it will be held in place. Simple and effective.I also had to move the securing adapter for the drive from the old DVD drive to the adapter, it had the holes in the right place for it, so no problem there. When inserting it, it was a bit tight, I could not see where it was rubbing at, but it went in fine, no real force needed. Secured the retaining bracket and turned the computer on. The drive was instantly recognized and accessible, with HDD access speeds similar to when it was the primary drive. As others have mentioned, it does have a blue/red LED on it. The blue is on all the time when the power is on, it flashes red when the drive is accessed. I can find no way to turn it off, but I am sure if it bugged you enough you could snip some wires, or at least put some tape or something over it. It does not bother me at all.For the faceplate, it is removable, but I could not get the faceplate off my DVD drive without destroying it, so I left it alone. The adapter face plate is flat, the computer is curved, so it is noticeable, but again, it does not bother me at all, so I am not worried about it. It is an area I don't touch or see so I will let it be. I am happy with the ability to have more storage than I will ever need on a laptop, yet still have SSD speeds for common programs.I wish we could give half stars, I would rate this as a solid 4.5 stars. I took off a little for the incorrect instructions, and the inability to turn off the LED on it, but other wise it is great so far.

Perfect for adding an SSD, and an exceptional value
I've long wanted an SSD for my Inspiron 17R laptop, but always thought I'd just have to settle for a hybrid SSHD drive since it had only one drive bay. Imagine my utter joy when I stumbled upon this adapter! For me, the DVD-RW drive in my laptop was next to useless. I honestly only opened it twice a year, if even that. High-capacity USB storage is so incredibly cheap, burning discs has practically been made obsolete. So I removed it in favor of this, and won't miss it in the least. And if I do need it for some reason, external USB disc driver are cheap.Installation was pretty much a breeze, but there are some things worth noting:• The SSD I bought would stick upward a little bit when inside this adapter - Not much, but enough that if I were to leave it that way it might get stuck inside the laptop, complicating any need to remove this adapter in the future. Easy fix, though: Apply a strip of tape across the top to hold it down.• Most disc drives have a tab in the back that either has a hook or a screw hole. The tab helps hold the drive inside your laptop so it won't somehow fall out. Make sure you remove it from your old disc drive (it's generally screwed on) and then fasten it back onto this adapter.• There's a purple/blue LED on the front of the adapter which blinks when the drive is accessed. It's mildly annoying, but not a deal breaker. I haven't yet tested if it can be turned off by pressing the button on the faceplate, but if not it'd be easy enough to stick a piece of black tape over.Overall, this thing was an awesome find, and the price is extremely reasonable. Highly recommended!

Works for Acer E15
At first I was worried this would not fit my Acer E15 series laptop. Acer describes it as a 9mm not a 9.5mm slot. Fortunately the 9.5mm drive adapter did fit, albeit quite tightly. Also, the screw that secures it in did not line up. It is in so tight that I am not concerned about this. Only issue I had was with the plastic faceplate, It broke at weak spot where two halves join across what appears to be a fake button. Not a big deal since I don't use my laptop to look cool and it's hard to see under the edge of the laptop. I am glad it worked.

Corners cut
Placing this in my machine was a bit tricky - it's an extremely tight fit width-wise. I think that's on purpose as there are no screws to attach the caddy to the laptop. It hasn't budged, But I still don't like it.UPDATE:After using this for 6 months, connector on the outside of the caddy (the connection between the caddy and the laptop board) has broken. It wasn't ever removed, nor has my machine ever been dropped or banged around.

Most importantly, the SATA connector fits and works great - I've effectively taken out my DVD drive and swapped in a HDD to supplement a new SDD in the main disk bay. The not-super is that it doesn't seem to be top quality - e.g. in certain sections it seems the metal might not have been clamped too well. Secondly, am unsure if the sizing is off because the brackets from my VAIO which accommodate the ODD and provide holes to screw/secure to the laptop casing were too big - seems like this product might be a couple of millimeters thinner than standard. I had to get rid of one of the brackets because the bracket stuck up too high from top of the caddy and wouldn't allow the data port to align, so the caddy is secured in my laptop with only one screw currently (not super ideal). Lastly am unsure if the holes for and tabs on provided bezel are standard, as I couldn't interchange my laptop's drive bezel onto it (at least without having to break off the tabs and resorting to glue or something) nor put the provided bezel onto my old ODD which is now sitting in an external enclosure. Well, at least it works.
