Fascinating
Although I'm quite familiar with English handbells, upon which tunes are played, I had only heard of English-style steeple bell ringing, usually called change ringing. Not until I read Dorothy Sayers' mystery THE NINE TAILORS (well worth reading!) did I have any curiosity about how this mathematical bell music system came about and how it was done. Not everyone likes the sound of steeple bells, so not everyone would like this; it could give some people nothing but large headaches. But I marvel at the ability of the ringers to master the permutations of the peals and perform them so quickly and so well. At first the ringing of a particular piece sounds as if the bells are rung always in the same order (if you can detect any order); listen enough times, however, and you'll hear the subtle differences as the bell choir works through all the possibilities. The accompanying booklet tells how the ringing is done, and also about the churches, the bells (some of which were destroyed in the London blitz of World War II but were recast of the same metal), and the groups that ring them. Bell-ringing was done for amusement by young people several hundred years ago - another testimonial to the fact that people had real lives before video games were invented.I'm so happy that this music has been recorded and preserved for posterity.

Church Bells of England
As I am British by birth I thoroughly enjoy this CD. There is nothing quite like English church bells on a Sunday morning to remind me of home. We are also using the CD for our local church on Sunday mornings and it is lovely to hear the bells played from the church tower. Enclosed with this CD is a very detailed explanation of each church's bell configuration and information on the changes and chimes etc.

church bells
We had another wedding in our backyard, this one for our grand daughter playing the Church Bells of England as they turned around to greet their guests as mr and mrs. At full volume, the bells welcomed them beautifully.

Nice, If You Are Looking For Peals Of Bells.
This is a nice recording of a range of peals of bells if you are searching for a cd of that sort of thing. Church bells are difficult to find on cd so this will fit the bill nicely. The quality is certainly good enough but sometimes the recording is a little unclear but hat is probably due to the nature of the things being recorded.
