3 years in, still works great
Had this for almost 3 years now, still works great. Briefly ran an OS and some games from it. Nowadays I use it for backups. Takes ~15 minutes to `cp -r` a ~100GB home directory to it.Should have bought a slower, cheaper drive though; I didn't actually need something this fast. But since I have it, I'm glad it's as fast as it is.

Works exactly as described for PS5
First off I have to mention, as with any and every hard drive, you will never get the full terabyte of space regardless of if it’s formatted to be totally empty or there’s an operating system on it or not. That’s how hard drives work, so those people leaving bad reviews because they didn’t get the “full” 1TB just don’t understand drives and file systems and calculated space vs actual. We’re not going to go on and on about that, if you’re going to fork out the money for it then you should already know that. This is the best external drive you can get for PS5 (if you get the SSD model). This SSD is nearly as fast as the internal PS5 drive. It can move game files very quickly and I’m impressed. I play almost all my PS4 games off of it with no issues (Fallout 76, GTA5, Warzone, Division 2). Load times are equally as fast. This includes both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A. If you read the articles about the PS5 you should also already know that you have to use the USB ports in the back of the console (No USB hubs/Splitters/docking station) or the USB-C port in the front in order to use the high speed data transfer. It’s worth the money, especially with the coming release of the internal SSD upgrade update for PS5 because the price of those just went sky high and on back order. So if you need something to hold you over until then, this is your sure winner. Western Digital makes high quality stuff, will also work perfectly for personal PC storage if your computer has the latest USB gen ports AND your computers internal hard drive is rated for these speeds.

Great purchase
I used this for gaming on my PS5 for the past 6 months or so. Definitely of good quality and material. It did buffer on me once during one of those cutscene transitions while I was playing God of War. The loading symbol appeared on the lower right hand corner of the screen to signify that the game wasn’t frozen and that it was just loading, however it was only for 2 seconds and the game resumed as if nothing happened right after. Not sure if it had anything to do with the product itself or if it was just an issue on the game’s end, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Only happened to me once during my 40 hour play through.Other than that small thing (which honestly wasn’t that big of deal), it’s worked perfectly fine for the past half year and I do not regret buying this. Loads super fast and comes is a small, sleek looking case design. I’ve played shooters like Call of Duty, R6, and Battlefield on this just fine as well as other single player games like Ghost of Tsushima and Deathloop. All of which run and load extremely fast, just as good as if they were running on the console’s own internal storage.Overall 5/5, would definitely recommend if you’re willing to spend the money for a premium storage upgrade.

Fast, solid external hard drive
I've been using this hard drive as an external storage for a PS5 for about a month now. I have experienced no issues or concerns with the device, and I have found it to be fast and reliable, with an adequate storage capacity. While this device is pricier than other devices of similar storage capacity, I chose this one based on favorable consumer and third-party reviews. I have been very happy with this purchase. I am particularly impressed with the small footprint of the device and what seems like a solid, rugged metal external case that has an interesting, industrial aesthetic. Overall, I am pleased with the purchase, with the only downside being the price tag that is steeper than other options, but it feels worth the extra financial investment for the apparent quality.

A supply drop for the entire console
Purchased this drive to replace a SanDisk Extreme SSD for the PlayStation 5. Nothing was wrong with the original drive, but this one claimed to be faster. The first thing to accept about these drives is that the number advertised on the box is a perfect scenario. It is unlikely it will ever be your number and most of these drives are only aiming for 1050MB/s on "normal" configurations. This drive gets much warmer than the SanDisk, but can be expected when trading rubberized coating for an aluminum chassis. The SanDisk Extreme Pro makes the same 2000MB/s claim, but in a far less appealing package. I was unable to compare that model to this one, but I imagine they are much closer. This could be, in part, because Western Digital is the parent company of SanDisk. As for the regular line, there is enough of an improvement that I was content with having switched drives. This drive looks a lot better next to the console. There is also one small detail that matters more to those with a vertical setup. The cables for this drive are significantly longer. The old drive required propping up on a stand or also standing it up vertically, often with a bit of fear that it would not stay in place. This drive has just enough cable to attach to the USB-C port and still lay the drive neatly on the rubber feet. Rather than an adapter to convert the cable, this one also comes with a separate USB-A cable. This allows leaving the cables attached to the PS5 and PS4 that are sharing the drive and moving only the drive itself between them. You truly appreciate this the first time you misplace an adapter.Another important consideration is price and durability. If you are looking to save a few bucks and not worry about splashing the drive, then the SanDisk drives are probably your best option. If you are using it in a controlled environment and care about the aesthetic aspects, then it is hard not to love this drive. Honestly, the drive looks like a supply drop sitting next to the console. It is hard not to admire it. Make sure to pick it up on a sale, though. The MSRP for this type of hardware is absolutely absurd.
