However, there are coffees that most coffee drinkers will appreciate more and others most coffee drinkers won't enjoy quite as much. I think this one, most coffee drinkers will appreciate. It is not at all bitter for this type of coffee, yet it makes a great espresso, cappuccino, latte; and if you've ever has a proper galao, you can do it with this cafe. I've made all of the aforementioned, as well as Americanos, and even tried it with carafe, gravity brewers, Brazilian press, auto drip..., making this one rather exceptionally versatile, and especially hard to beat, especially at this price. Review: as espresso, makes a pleasant earthy shot with thick crema - I agree this appears to be medium roast and the brown beans are not oily. Brewed as espresso, this makes a pleasant earthy shot with thick crema that is not bitter - I would call it muddy but not unpleasant and obviously not tasting like dirt. I would buy it again sometime and it's a very good value for what I paid. Lately this roast is making a doubleshot with 80% crema - ridiculous, but of course in 2-3 minutes it subsides to 30%. Fun. EDIT- this batch tastes a bit like burnt popcorn, unlike any of the previous appx 10 bags.

What I've Been Missing
I lived in Azores an autonomous region of Portugal for 2 years in the mid 1990s. It was there I was introduced quality coffee. We would take a daily break to get a cappuccino at the terminal. Since I left the Azores I've been looking for a quality coffee bean that was like the coffee I first really loved. Coffees in America just didn't cut it. Finally I looked up the types of coffee available in Portugal and found some on Amazon. This was the first of the Portuguese roasts to arrive. My wife and I couldn't more pleased. The flavor of the coffee isn't roasted away like the popular American brands that brew something reminiscent of activated charcoal. We enjoy the full flavor range of this coffee. We've cancelled or subscription to Lavazza coffees we'll just have to keep one in pantry so we don't run out.

Excellent affordable bean
I use these beans with Breville Double Boiler and Breville Grinder. I say that because, of course, the beans are just one element in making an espresso. I won't go into my settings on the Breville Machine and Grinder because the user can customize to her/his liking. It took some playing around with the beans but I knew the playing around would be worth it because I liked the taste of these beans---they are medium to medium dark roast (read: never burnt tasting) and produce an espresso with appropriate head and thickness. There are hints of caramel and chocolate and a nice acidity....but no matter how strong I make these, not bitter. It's hard to find all of those qualities in any espresso at any price. Are these the best beans I've ever tried? Well, no. But my absolute favorite beans are $18 for 12 ounces and these are $10 for over two pounds. Excellent quality for the money. Unlike other reviewers, I have never received stale or old beans and I've ordered about ten bags of these so far.

Great coffee all the time
You have to have the right machine to brew this coffee. I’ve been looking for a nice cup of coffee for three years now, and this one is it. It is so smooth. That beautiful red creamy foamy color when it hits your cup, and the taste, it reminds me when I lived in Newark NJ in the Ironbound section. Mostly Portuguese coffee shops. I highly recommend it but you need the right machine. I have the Breville Expresso Machine. The best.

Not good quality coffee!
Not a good coffee! I do not recommend for espresso. It gives a weird finish tasting and the coffee is very weak ( please note I only buy medium roast and don't like dark roast coffee - ). In addition, the smell of the coffee after ready is very strange! Even though it's cheap, it's waist of your money. You will end up buying other brand!!

Excellent medium roast beans
I am using my sixth or seventh kilo of these beans in superautomatics and find they work very well due to dry medium roast. The taste is great when dialed in properly; in the direction of my usual Lavazza Crema e Gusto beans which can purchased locally. Rossio just lacks the overwhelming aroma of Crema e Gusto beans being freshly ground. I miss it at home, but in the office that is probably for the best since there are really a few people who do not like the smell of fresh-ground coffee.
