How can the Wgen 5300 with a 279cc engine produce almost as many watts as the Wgen 5500 with the 420cc ?, wont that shorten the life of the 279cc ?

I cannot speak to your backup electrical needs, but I purchased the Wgen 3600 unit - to be used only in the event of a temporary power outage. Were you planning on running a generator continuously - or just now and again? How much power draw were you expecting the generator to produce? If you are concerned about the CC capacity of the 5300 model, then go ahead and purchase the 5500.
