Absolutely perfect!!!
Absolutely beautiful guitar. Shipping was perfect and arrived on time and in perfect condition. Loving this guitar more than all my electrics at the moment. Which is saying something for someone who loves electric more than acoustics. A lot of fun to play.Took it in for setup and was told everything was told it was pretty good already which makes a guitar buyer feel pretty good. Cudos to Martin especially for this series of guitars. Sounds fantastic for HPL, I was skeptical at first for this but as someone who is still learning (aren’t we all?), but very pleased. Waited the 24 hrs to open and no issues to date. Holds tune perfectly and can’t say enough that this was worth the extra money for an intermediate guitar for a Martin. Action is spot on and the tones are beautiful.Wish it had pick guard but they is being pretty petty. Plugging it in with Fender GTX 100 sounded very good with Fishman pickup. Wife even mentioned that even by itself without amplifying it said it was perfect.

How did they do it?
Plays perfectly. Great neck feel. Sounds great, but a little more mellow than an all wood guitar. It's a very subtle difference. Most people couldn't tell. The all black body looks fantastic and doesn't have a finish to ruin. I got this because I'm mainly a campfire acoustic player and I already ruined an Ibanez acoustic by too much exposure to the elements. Oh yeah, not that I plug in much, but holy cow, I thought I was playing a $10,000 guitar when I played this plugged in. The pickup sounds GREAT.One last thing, it seems a bit lighter in the body than wood guitars, but heavier in the neck.

Good tone, poor quality
I wanted to purchase an all laminate guitar, one that would stand up well with humidity and travel. I looked to Martin as it has a reputation for quality. I assumed that this quality reputation would extend even to their low end, HPL guitars.... not the case. On the positive side, the tone was lovely and had that 'Martin' sound. The tapered performance neck was fast and felt great. Now... on to the negative. The guitar arrived with a cracked brace in bottom lower bout. It looked like it was a manufacturing problem, not a result of shipment. Also, the mill work on the frets was horrible. The frets stuck out on one side and were jagged to the touch. I've bought cheap Fender and Yamaha guitars that were of much better quality. I recognize that these Martin HPL guitars are made in Mexico... but I would steer clear of purchasing them online. Only go forward if you can inspect the guitar in person.

Good Bang for the Buck
As an owner of several Martin guitars obviously this is a lower end model and pales in comparison to a higher end ones, knowing that when buying it helps. If you're expecting it to play and sound like a 000 28 you're obviously going to be disappointed. It does have a great sound acoustically, however the Fishman electronics in it are a tad hot on the high end, easily eq'd out with a pedal, but without it may be problematic. Over all it's a workhorse. I use it mainly for live outdoor gigs where if it sprinkles or a beer gets spilled on it I'm not going to freak out where I normally would with a higher end Martin. I beat on it while playing faster upbeat songs and it stays in tune and the playability is good. Action is a little high and lowering it causes a fret buzz, but the frets aren't plecked so it is what it is. All in all I'm satisfied with the purchase.
