Fillomino & Sudoku Spiral-bound – June 2, 2009

Filomino is more fun than sudoku. We stumbled on this book and I'm so glad I did. They need to make more Filomino books.

I wish they had a book JUST of Fillomino...I bought this for the second time because I completed the first book I got...and it's not like you can really remember the answers to the hard ones ^.^

My daughter, who knows I am a Sudoku fan, gave me this for Christmas. I knew I would enjoy the Sudoku puzzles but wasn't so sure about the Fillomino puzzles which constitute the second half of the book. Surprise! I found them challenging and addictive!I read the brief, easy instructions and began on the easy puzzles. The goal, in brief, is to divide the grid into groups of squares. A group of seven squares would have a 7 written in each square, etc. Some squares have numbers already. The challenge is to use logic to find the unique values for each of the remaining squares. This book Fillominos in a wide range of difficulty. The Easy ones are quite reasonable. Some of the Hard ones require incredible mental gymnastics and are difficult enough for the most demanding puzzle aficionados.One evening a couple of my nephews (a high school student and a college student) saw me working on one of the hard puzzles and took an interest. Soon the three of us were working together on the puzzle. The nephews were fascinated! Ultimately I had to buy each of them his own copy of this book!I like the paper of this book--smooth and white--and its binding--it easily lies flat. And I love the puzzles. I wish there were a lot more Fillomino collections available.

My husband bought me this book because I love Sudoku and other logic puzzles. Usually a book takes only a short while to complete, but this book has lasted me a month already and has kept my attention. I love the puzzles, it is my favorite puzzle book and I plan to buy more in this series. I like that this book has sudoku and a new type of puzzle. If you are unfamiliar with the other Japanese puzzles you can go to the nikoli website and walk through the tutorials to learn the new games. Their website is fantastic. I have had a lot of fun with this book!

I tried the fillomino puzzles and found them to be a refreshing new puzzle that requires logic and patience. This book also includes sudoku, which has become a bit played out. Great job by the people at Nikoli for designing these puzzles. I'm glad to see these books are available in the US, otherwise, the only other way would be to order directly from Nikoli in Japan, which can take 3 to 5 weeks.
