Moving.
Henry Olonga is an all African. He is a hero on and off the cricket pitch. Not only a very accomplished cricketer but a true Zimbabwean. Having lived through some of these events written in this book I can say Henry captures things on paper that not too many have written about. I hope my fellow Zimbabweans get a chance to read this book. As well as everyone across the world, cricket fan or not. This is a very moving story. I highly recommend it. Thank you Henry Olonga for writing this book.

A raw & honest insight into one person's life under a dictatorship
There is no self agrandisement, no self pity, just a young man's view of living life as you know it as a child and later realising propaganda is not always the truth and afterwards where life must be so different. Oh! to never be allowed back to the country you grew up in!I have heard Henry's music and seen some of his paintings - he is very talented and I look forward to the next installment of his life!

Amaizing
Very interesting read. Would intrigue the interest of those who follow cricket and the politics of Zimbabwe.I have always wondered what ever happened to him. It is a bit lop sided towards the writer, but an amazing story.

Easy to read, leaves a nice impression.
I kinda liked this. Partly because I know many of the places and even people he mentions, but also because I like his christian honesty, innocence and humility. God gives him the courage to make his stand, and then sees him safely to a better future. This book covers that sort of end of the limbo period in Zimbabwe where life was still OK but the cracks were really starting to appear. The end of the comfortable life for the whites, which they had taken for granted. He gives an objective account of the simmering racism, hostility, inequality and negativity- on both sides- without resentment or bitterness. He depicts this mostly fractured and alienated country, sharply divided between ethnicity and wealth. He sets the scene, with a doom-laden undercurrent, that we recognize as the precursor to the farm invasions. He leaves nothing out and the reader will be on his side all the way.

Just not that interesting
I bought this book because I had heard Henry speak at a church dinner. He was an entertaining speaker and engaging personality and I wanted to know more about his faith and his courageous stand against Robert Mugabe. There are certainly parts of this book that are quite exciting and there is some description of the terrible state of his country but while an easy read the fact is that most of Henry's life is just not that fascinating unless you happen to be interested in the sporting career of a moderately successful Zimbabwean cricketer - and I am not. For much of the book his Christian faith is invisible and I would have liked more on what life in Zimbabwe was like. Perhaps for much of the time for Henry it was not actually that different to life anywhere else. In summary, OK if you like cricket, otherwise of genuine but rather limited interest.

Not a nobody
To extract a quote from the book Henry Olonga is far from a nobody. He is a somebody who has done what few others would have done. The world needs people like him. Without them it is nothing.

Great read BUT..........
The book was a really good intresting read, But unfortunately i read the book after my husband and it just fell apart a lot of the front pages fell out and then the front cover just came completely off, I was disappointed with this as i thought a book should be able to cope with more than one read i would have liked to keep the book but i had to just throw it in the bin.

A wonderfully reflective and candid account
A wonderfully reflective and candid account of Henry's journey that provides insight into the trials and tribulations of a promising cricketer breaking his way in to a sport previously dominated by white settlers.

Incredibly dull
Henry Olonga was an incredibly brave man, and a wonderful cricketer with a fascinating story to tell. It's such a pity that this book is boring and turgid. It has no real structure and leaps into long winded and dull digressions. This could have done with a skilled ghost writer to bring out what is a great story.

This is a good book and not just from a cricketing perspective
This is a good book and not just from a cricketing perspective. Olonga explains a lot about Mugabe and Zimbabwe's history. James.
