My second time reading this
This has to be one of my favorite books of Dick Parker's and one I enjoyed reading the second time around even more than the first read through. My only issue is this is one of his stories I really wish he would have slowed down and fleshed out some. I don't mean to write a 350-page novel, but certainly expanded on how a boy falls in love with another boy and never realized he was gay before. He sets up the story well: Alex sees a boy named Evan being picked on and stands up for him. An unlikely friendship forms and Alex finds himself thinking about Evan in a way he's never thought about another boy before. That's a great story that I wish Dick would have explored. How Alex fell in love with another boy.Like too many of his stories, he has his characters going from "Hello" to "I love you forever" entirely too quickly, and this one, in particular, I really wish he would have slowed down and let the reader see and experience Alex falling in love with Evan. But it's still a good story, just one I really wish Parker would have written more with these great characters and the great setup he has. The end of the book reads like he was running out of paper and needed to wrap up the story in 3 paragraphs.

wow
This was a great story. Growing up gay and invisible to all the students in my school, this story really touched me. I wish there was a sequel.
