Q: Is this suitable for both steel and nylon struing guitars

Piezoelectric pickups go under the saddle and are ideal for steel or nylon string guitars. Ideally you would need to also install preamp, most commonly involving cutting holes in the guitar body to mount them, or using sound hole controls and preamp that are less destructive. Even a passive under saddle piezo would require at least a small hole at one end of the saddle slot for the output wire. The alternative is a disk piezo which can be attached anywhere using hot glue. The piezo cannot be shortened as its a sealed unit

I don't think you could reduce the length of the piezo as it is all pre-wired and a single piece. In theory it would work if placed under the bridge for a 2 string instrument but you would have to have enough space (length) to fit it in.
