Good Digital to Analog Converter
I read the reviews and almost didn't buy this converter. My Zenith stopped working and I needed to replace it. Since it was so inexpensive I changed my mind and bought two. This review is for both boxes that I bought.Powering up is a little slow. The speed of changing channels is decent. The picture quality is good but if it is set on zoom (4x3), you can't see the far outer edges of the picture unlike my other converter boxes. The sound levels are low but at the highest setting matches close to that of my Magnavox converter. Please use the RCA connection and not the coaxial or you won't get the full sound level and will also hear a hiss (as many other reviewers have stated). The reception is ok. It is better than my RCA but not as good as my Magnavox and Zenith.I didn't have the issue where the channel settings were lost after turning the box off (standby mode). I've read on one review elsewhere that if you get the version with the rectangular power supply as opposed to the square one, you may have the later version that corrected this (mine has a 03/09 manufacture date). The box does get a little hot but not so much that I can't touch it (I've had it on for a couple of hours). Seems hotter than my other brands. The Access HD has plently of vent holes top, side, and bottom. My Magnavox has only a tiny vent in the back and hardly heats up.As for the remote, I got the 1080D version (dedicated remote). I bought a two pack Philips universal remotes (one big and one smaller) and successfully programmed both to work with the Access HD box. The bigger Philips universal can do everything the original remote can do except switching the audio and the signal strength meter. The smaller Philips lacks those in addition to the aspect (4x3 vs the station's setting) button. I've read in some reviews that the remote stopped working. At least I will be able to use the universals minus the few features if this happens. It isn't a full featured box but if you just want to keep using a old NTSC TV, it is a good converter.

no problems
It works great, cheap. Bought 2, 1 for the frontroom and 1 for the bedroom. has a signal strength meter, you can adjust volume. easy setup. easy remote, although i can see some people complain about the size of the buttons.I'm saving alot of money from not having a monthly cable/satellite bill.so instead of having 200 channels of crap i have 25 channels of crap.works so good i bought a 3rd for the garage, so i can watch crap there too.Update...1 died over the winter, but it was used in the garage, and i guess the cold winter got to it , overall its still is a good buy

2 years later still works.
Purchased on 09/19/2011. I did have some antenna issues in the beginning and moved it from one tv to another just so I could download all the channels in my area and then moved it back to where I wanted it. On some channels I do have to move the antenna on occassion to get a better signal, but other than that it works fine. It does get hot when it is on and the volume control does not work, unless set to 0. All other numbers, 1-60, are the same exact volume. I live in the Phoenix area and there are about 60 channels (half are spanish or religious), but it does pick up all of them. I just delete the channels I do not want to see. I did not have high hopes for this device and it works as I expected it would.11/03/2013...still have this analog box and it is still working.

Access HD DTA1080D
Purchased two of these "Access HD DTA1080D" (digital to analog converts) for a couple of existing, old televisions I have in the house. After a bit of fussing around and learning how they work we got them hooked up and functioning well. The two things that were a bit of a challenge were scanning for channels, removing the ones we do not want or do not come in well --and-- preventing the device from shutting off after four hours. After these two issues were solved they are performing great. The only other thing was one of the devices had a broken RG-6 cable but that was easily fixed. If you want an inexpensive digital to analog convert to get you by until the older tv is replaced this is well worth the consideration.

Don't Buy this Product and Don't Buy From CircuitCity
Well, a year ago, I bought this product because I needed a converter box that was cheap. I read the reviews which indicated its poor quality, but I wasn't looking for anything great, just something that will do. I should have listened to the reviews and not bought this product. Within the first few days, I started having problems. The audio would occasionally change where people's voice would become deep and low pitch. It was very creepy sounding. To fix this, I had to turn the box off and then back on. I wanted to return this product and get a refund immediately. I bought it from CircuitCity, so I went to their site to read about how to return this product. I found out how horrible CircuitCity's return policy is. They wouldn't let me get a refund, only an exchange. I didn't want an exchange because this product is just poorly made and I didn't want to receive the same poorly made product. Their return policy allows them to stock poor products like this and then there is nothing the customers can do when they find out how crappy the products are. Any decent retailer would have stood by their products and allowed the customers to return them if they're not satisfied. But not CircuityCity and that shows clearly what kind of store it is. Also, Access HD, the manufacturer of this converter box knows this thing sucks, so that's why they only offer 3 months of warranty for it. Every other electronic products out there that I have ever seen give a 1 year warranty. This one, only 3 months. A few months ago, less than a year after I bought it, it suddenly died. If I had bought a decent converter box made by anyone else, it probably wouldn't have failed so soon, and even if it did, I would have been able to get a replacement. Learn from my mistake. Don't buy this product, and don't buy from CircuitCity.
