Slightly disappointed
Having read the other 2 reviews I was of the opinion that any help with comprehension practice and sample essays would be helpful. Having had a quick look I was quite pleased with the variety but really annoyed that no answers were included. Tend to feel that this publication is a bit of a con as I would now have to make another purchase to get the marking scheme! So all in all it will cost over £20. Not this consumer! I'll trust my own marking ability. However, I have also purchased "Excellent English" which does have answers as well as guidance although, not as many question papers. Or perhaps I will just stick to the tried and tested Bond in future.

Excellent book lots of exercises
Excellent book lots of exercises, and lots of questions asking to write a story on X, write a description about y. Having to buy separate answer book a hassle though and would of liked examples of how open ended exercises could be marked. But overall a good book to keep revision going.

Useful book
Lots of prose comprehensions, aimed at 11+ students. They are challenging in standard, so don't start your preparation with these - great for more able candidates.

useful
I found this a very useful book in tteaching and tutoring children. It can be difficult to find many suitable text books for comprehension but this meets the need.

Very useful
A very useful collection of varied texts. Useful for 11+ comprehension practice and for experience of different forms of language, particularly poetry.

Promising but not for 11+
With increasing number of senior schools requiring that candidates sit an 11+ pretest, even for 13+ entry, this is a timely publication. The book has a two generous comprehension sections, fiction and one non-fiction. The passages have been well chosen to appeal to modern readers. The third section is of pictures and titles to stimulate composition.I admit to being disappointed that the passages follow the ISEB format of 45 minutes, rather than the format which is more common in the real world tests. A 30 minute comprehension exercise and 30 minute composition tends to be the norm and timing is all for 11 year old candidates. Also, as increasing numbers of schools are setting poems, WHERE IS THE POETRY SECTION?The book may be of more use to weaker 13+ candidates, in year 7, where the fiction/non-fiction sections follow the format of the CE exams.
