Delta 36-6023 10 Inch Table Saw with 32.5 Inch Rip Capacity

I will preface this by saying that I am not a contractor. I am a hobbyist woodworker. I don't have a lot of space, so I had to select a contractor saw over a hybrid or cabinet saw. This is my second Delta table saw. The first was a cheapy entry level saw that I had for years, until I loaned it to a "friend" who left it out in the rain. Note - if you borrow tools, return them in better condition than you got them.This was shipped by Amazon's in house shipping service. Honestly, care was not taken in shipping. The box had a huge gouge in it where the delivery driver looked to have repeatedly rammed his dolly to try and get under the box. I was a bit concerned. But luckily, there was no internal damage.ASSEMBLYAssembly is fairly straight forward. I mean if you are buying a table saw, you should be at least skilled enough to assemble the stand. My saw came attached to the base of the stand. I just had to attach the legs, handles and wheels. I would suggest keeping the table upside down in the box while you assemble. Once it's all assembled, flip it out of the box and right side up. Once upright, it's fairly straightforward to attach the blade, throat plate insert, fence, etc. Make sure you follow the directions and move the blade angle to 45 degrees so that the block of styrofoam falls out or you will have a frustrating time inserting the blade. It is listed at 78 pounds, but unless I've gotten a lot stronger recently, I think that is not accurate. I haven't put it on a scale, but it feels light to me.OPERATIONThe fence is awesome. It was dead square out of the box. The saw blade is fairly accurate as well. At 0 degrees (on the dial) it is off by 0.02 deg which for the work I'm doing is acceptable. The table top is flat. The measurement to the fence is off by 1/64th of an inch, but I always physically measure the distance from the blade to the fence before cuts. I have done several rip cuts with the largest being 22.5 inches. Those have been good.Oh, and moving it around, and folding it up for storage is so simple, it's awesome. So much better than trying to lug around a contractor saw. The stand is solid and a pleasure to use.THINGS I DIDN'T LIKECompared to the rest of the saw, the miter gauge is pretty bad. It's not accurate as I learned on my first cross cut. I won't go so far as to say that you are better off doing a freehand cut, but it's pretty weak. If you need a miter gauge, I would suggest purchasing an aftermarket one or building a sled. I don't like the anti kickback pawls. It's a pain to install and if your work piece is too thin, it won't work. Also, the push stick isn't the best. I never understand why table saws don't come with two push sticks. I have a set of safety push blocks that I use, so no big deal. The saw blade is ok. It's not great, but it isn't horrible either. But that's also to be expected.I would suggest a coat of Johnson Paste wax on the table, fence and especially the T-slots to insure smooth operation and protection. Out of the box the table is a bit grabby, but this is to be expected.I have not done any dado's yet. But after a few projects and several different cuts of different sizes and with different woods (hard and soft) I cannot be happier with this saw. I would highly recommend this saw.

This is a great contractor saw. I've owned several over the years, this being the most expensive one I've owned to date.It took a fair bit to setup the saw I'd say probably about an hour. The instructions were easy enough for me to follow, so I had no issues doing so. Once setup, the saw proved to be very easy to operate. I didn't have to do any calibrations to the fence, I found it close enough to use out of the box. I am not doing fine woodworking so I don't need millimeter precision. I bought this to finish some railing work on some Honduran Sapele in my living room. The cuts were clean and straight. This is not a heavy cabinet saw but found the vibrations were minimal. It is louder, again, not being a cabinet saw, but my cheaper saws were all much louder than this one. As with most sub $1k saws, you can throw away the miter gauge if you intend to do any decent miter cuts. This one is no different, but I won't hold it against the machine since it's the same industry wide. Get yourself a decent aftermarket miter gauge or build a miter sled for those cuts. The fence is straight ad mentioned before and the sliding mechanism is smooth and accurate. Again, not top of the line, but good enough for a saw at this price range. The blade cuts clean for general purpose use and for the railing project I had. If you plan to sell your work, you'll be replacing the blade with something more upmarket.Overall, I have another project planned, a wine display case, where I'll be able to cotinue to use this saw. I'll probably invest in a miter gauge and build a cross cut sled before starting that one. I have no doubts the saw will perform well.

Saw came mostly calibrated out of the box. Fence ruler was off by 1/16 inch, and the angle adjustment was off by 1 degree at the 45 degree stop. Blade is good enough to get started with, and the motor was plenty powerful. Cut through maple and cherry with little effort and no burning. The stand is very simple, and very stable.Angle adjustment is a bit stiff, though maybe it'll get easier over time. The power cord could be a couple feet longer. Ended up having to buy an extension cord just to have the saw more in the center of my garage instead of close to the wall with the power cord stretched tight. The throat plate is probably the worst part of the saw. It's impossible to get it flush with the table at the rear and left of the blade. This causes thinner rips to catch on the lip. Maybe I got a defect or a damaged one, but there's no support in the back because the slot is cut through to the back of the plate for the riving knife. This makes it bend in slightly with weight on it, making the problem worse.It's easy enough to buy or make a new throat plate, which is why I still give the saw 4 stars. It's just an extra expense that really shouldn't be there.

Initially the saw looks and functions great. Took a bit of time to assemble the base and mount the saw but the instructions were good and all went very well. The base, which is not included with most compact saws, is very well engineered and designed and works well to keep the saw stable when it is in use but folds up nicely when not in use. This Delta 36-6023 contractos saw itself appears well engineered and includes an innovative, well designed fence system, good mechanics for tilt and lift, a fair miter gauge, good safety features and a motor that really turns up. I haven't yet cut much with it but right out of the box the saw appears to cut and rip straight, accurate and with great ease. Certainly plenty of power and speed. Once I've used it more I'll update my review as I strongly believe this might just be a unit to give the outrageously priced DeWalt a run for its money. Being a 30 plus year retired shop teacher and having sold all my larger equipment, I needed a compact saw that was reliable, affordable and pretty accurate and I continue to enjoy woodworking as a hobby.
