Creekstone Farms USDA Prime Ground Beef (85% Lean) - 12 lbs.

With the current public health crisis situation it has become nearly impossible to find fresh meat of any kind in my local grocery stores, especially my old friend ground beef. So in a moment of inspiration (and with a dream of tacos) I scoured Amazon for the best deal on ground beef and settled on this item from Creekstone Farms. I ordered on Wednesday, the beef shipped from the farm (located in the heart of beef country in Kansas) on Thursday and arrived at my door (in Florida) on Sunday. The square foam cooler was packaged inside a cardboard box and was undamaged by the shipping. The cooler was probably twice the size it needed to be for the twelve one-pound packages of beef, and was not adequately filled with ice packs to compensate for the extra volume of air inside the cooler. As a result, one of the packages was almost completely thawed, and another two were about half frozen; one pack had a slight leak and there was some "meat juice" in the bottom of the cooler and on the other packages. I placed the thawed package in the fridge and the rest in the freezer, after giving two packs to my neighbor who was "Jonesing" for beef for her Keto diet. I cooked up the first pack of beef tonight as a meatloaf and it was delicious, certainly as good as the organic, grass-fed beef that I usually buy. At less than $10/pound (with shipping) this was a good value especially due to the high demand caused by the pandemic, and is about what I normally pay at the local supermarket. The thawing/leaking issues reduced my rating of this item to four stars, but overall I am satisfied and would likely purchase this item again.
