Product Description Certified gold by the RIAA. (4/93) .com Despite denied claims that it's about marijuana, "Puff the Magic Dragon" now ranks as one of the finest children's songs in musical history. It's sung around campfires and in nursery schools to this very day (while still occasionally taking a tug at adults' heartstrings as well). So, it only made sense when Peter, Paul & Mary released this "kiddies" LP in 1969, beginning a trend they've returned to throughout their career. Mary Travers had indeed recently become a "mommy," and the trio celebrate here not only with a new version of their classic tune and the traditional "Mockingbird," but clever children's songs from the likes of Tom Paxton, Gilbert & Sullivan, and Shel Silverstein. --Bill Holdship

Entertaining & Funny for kids & adults
This is the same album I listened to as a child and loved. It is fun for both children as young as 2-3yo to listen to as well as adults. The voices of Peter, Paul & Mary along with the guitar are soothing and do not becoming annoying if listened to over & over again. This is a much better selection of songs than the sequel Peter, Paul & Mary Too which I originally purchased by mistake although the DVD version of the sequel is entertaining.

For the kid in everyone
Songs especially written for children have deteriorated steadily over the years, as all forms of popular entertainment, and especially popular music, have headed straight for the pits. This album from 1969 might be near the peak of the days when music for kids could be both non-insipid and non-imbecilic. Although more than half a century separates me from childhood, I listened to the songs here, almost all of which were new to me, with great pleasure. Probably the most successful is "Going to the Zoo," which has a propulsive rhythm full of repeated triplets. "Make-Believe Town" is muchless successful, a case of being too self-consciously cutesie. I also particularly liked "Boa Constrictor," short and sweet, and "It's Raining," whose lyrics consist of familiar childhood chants and sayings. We also get "The Marvelous Toy," another song full of wit and rhythm, "Day is Done," which served as a closing number in PP&M live concerts for many years, and a number of others, concluding with "Puff the Magic Dragon." Most of the songs are recorded before a live audience of kids, and you can hear childish giggles, laughs and other reactions, as well as singing-along throughout. This is a relatively inexpensive way to relive those long-lost childhood joys for an hour or so.

Sentimental treasure
I gave this vinyl to my adult son as a gift. He marveled that he could sing along word-for-word to almost every song. It was my favorite record when they were growing up and we both still love it. I know the songs are available in more recent formats but hearing them on vinyl has been especially meaningful.

Exactly as I remember it!
"When I was just a wee little lad..."So starts "The Marvelous Toy" When I was young, my parents bought this album and played it for me - and later I played it myself - all the time. Of course, back then, we owned it recorded using the new technology of "cassette tape" My, how times have changed - and haven't. Now that I have my own sons, this was the first MP3 album I bought, and play it for them regularly. The Amazon MP3 recording is of excellent audio quality, and with it they get to learn the wonders of Puff the Magic Dragon while suffering through their father's terrible singing. What will happen when they're old enough to ask me not to sing along? Who knows? But this album will definitely stand the test of time. Few mainstream artists today take the time to carefully assemble a thoughtful childrens' album, while this one has remained excellent and relevant from 1969 until today. You should not hesitate, but definitely buy it right away.

A magnificent children's album
This is everything that a children's album should be. It has songs with obvious appeal to children, but sung in the normal style of the singers, so adults can also enjoy it.Recorded as a result of their success with Puff the magic dragon, the last track here, it also includes another of their classic songs, Day is done, as well as covers of two great Tom Paxton songs, The marvellous toy and Going to the zoo.Boa constrictor is a silly song that only Shel Silverstein could have written. I first heard it on Johnny Cash's less than serious album, Everybody loves a nut. Mockingbird has been well covered down the years and is ideal for this album. I didn't recognise It's raining from the title but as soon as I heard it's pouring, the old man is snoring, I remembered it.Fans of Peter Paul and Mary's other music need have no fears about this album. If you enjoy Puff the magic dragon, you will enjoy the rest of this album.

Let's do the time warp again
It's hard to listen to this without getting a bit nostalgic. I've watched some Peter Yarrow videos on Youtube and they're okay, but a bit childish and weird. So I enjoyed listening to this classic album, which was a staple in the house during the early 1970s. The sound quality is good. It's preferable to have access to the Skip button your player, however, as "It's Raining, It's Pouring" starts off fine but includes spoken word by Mary Travers, and although she's an important part of the harmony, her solo voice stabs me like a knife. Imagine a teapot whistling and not being able to turn it off for some reason, really quite the bummer.

A childhood joy and a life-long needful thing
My parents bought me the LP version when I was the age of the kids on the album cover. I played the livin' daylights out of that record! And, it's probably in their attic, now, since we've gotten rid of the turntable. Some songs are very much part of that late 60's folk music scene. There's an anti-war sentiment that modern kids might need to have explained to them. However, it's fun to watch when a child of today realizes the boa constrictor song came from a Shel Silverstein poem they had recently read. "Puff the Magic Dragon" is familiar enough, and it offers an opportunity to introduce kids to the poetry of Ogden Nash.I can highly recommend this album to parents, teachers, and kids-at-heart who enjoy fun, sing-along-worthy music.

lively songs that children love! Provides a great opportunity for interacting with children
This album is part of many of the fondest memories from my childhood :) Lots of unique, silly, lively songs that children love! Provides a great opportunity for interacting with children. Kids love making the "popping" sound with "the marvelous little toy" and "puff the magic dragon" is an all time classic! My grandmother, who was an elementary teacher for 40+ years used it in her classroom and recommended it to my mother when I was little, I am now continuing on with the tradition by sharing this music from my childhood with my son and he absolutely loves it! I cannot recommend this album enough! You will not be disappointed!

Peter, Paul & Mary - Peter, Paul & Mommy
An unusual album from 1969. As usual brilliant Peter, Paul & Mary harmonies. Great versions of some children's songs without being too sickly sweet.

Traditionelles findet ebenso seinen Platz wie die lustigen Scherz-Songs Boa Constrictor, Going to the Zoo und The Marvellous Toy. Gehört in jeden Kinder CD-Player!Wunderschön.

Pure Harmony
I originally purchased this as a record for my children in the '80's. On no other children's record could I find pure harmonies like those of Peter, Paul and Mary. Now, 30 years later, I am able to share those same harmonies + the bonus of real instruments with my grandchildren🎶

Love this CD
Love this CD. Had it on cassete when my kids were little and now that I have a grandbaby, I want her to hear those songs. I play it in the car even when she is not with me. I love it today as much as I did 30 years ago!
