Battery operated
I have only had this ca for 1 week and have already had to replace the 6 batteries. Returning the can is pending. I will see how long the replaced batteries last. I can't/won't replace this often. Otherwise, I love the sensor operated opening and the size of the can.OK, this is week two of owning this senbible Eco living stainless steele motions sensor can. The batteries have to be replaced again. I do not wish to replace 6ea AA batteries every week.I will be returning the can.

Best trash can in the world when working
Absolutely love this thing. I mean how much can you love a trash can? When this is working it’s awesome. Very convenient, totally attractive and kind of a novelty when guest visit. Holds A LOT OF TRASH. Easy to cleans and a snap to change the bag and batteries out. HOWEVER, after 6 months of perfect operation the sensor began to turn on for no reason and burned out a bunch of batteries. Exchanged for a new one today. Will let ya know how it goes. If this thing works it’s very cool but like anything else, the operation of the product is more important than being pretty or cool. Hopefully this new one lasts more than 6 months. Would give 5 Stars all the way when working

Eats batteries
I bought mine at Costco. I loved it was so excited the first couple days. Then day 5 the batteries died. I knew the batteries were new but I went and bought new batteries. Again, it worked great for less then a week. Then it started opening when no one was near it and it wouldn’t close on its own. I followed the instructions to reset it several times and it still wouldn’t work correctly. Finally on day 6 the batteries died again. I’m definitely returning this to Costco. Very disappointed as I loved the design. The fact that it had a complete plastic can on the inside was a huge plus, it made for easy cleaning and also carrying it to the outside trash can. Too bad I’m not willing to go bankrupt being batteries every week.

Great Price for a Great Product
Very good-looking item. It's just a nice sleek looking garbage can. I'd like to find more to give out as gifts as odd as that may sound. Ha! The sensor is reliable which is a huge bonus. The size is perfect and I use heavy duty contractor bags and they fit inside. It cost me $40 and I thought that was a great deal considering what smaller sensor garbage cans cost with not so good reviews.

Uses a lot of batteries
The trash can has a nice design. Unfortunately it goes through batteries quickly. What's worse is you can't use rechargeable batteries. I would rather use rechargeable batteries or have it plug into the wall. Disposing 6 batteries every week and a half is not eco friendly. I might end up returning it.

Box says "sensor mute" showing dog playing with the can
We owned the previous model which lasted approximately 2 months until the motion sensor failed. We didn't want to buy another electronic trash can but then we saw that this one had a "Sensor mute" function, so we assumed that it was an updated version of the previous model. The owners manual doesn't mention the words "sensor mute" anywhere . We called customer service, the lady wasn't familiar with the product and couldn't help

Cost effective smart trash can
I've had this for 2 months now and it's very nice! I like that the interior liner bin can be removed and I can hose it out once in a while. I like that its easy to keep the lid open or closed and the sensor is good. I am not sure how the battery life will perform but so far I haven't changed them. My one gripe it that it doesn't know when I'm standing over it and emptying for a longer time.
