Tooth Trouble (Ready, Freddy)

Just a forewarning for teachers/parents
I am a 1st grade teacher who began reading these books to my kids this year. I own about 14 of the books in this series and have read most of them. I just finished book 12 I believe and I am officially burnt out on these things. Freddy is not a great role model for kids. He talks back to his parents constantly, lies to their faces, whines incessantly, and gets away with whatever he wants. Now, I'm a young teacher, 25, who has no kids of his own and doesn't know the first thing about raising them, but I know my kids pick up on the behavior that is in these books. All the kids call each other names constantly, and are just shallow stereotypes (rich brat, bully, braniac, athlete). They have mixed messages and honestly the stories began to follow the same format (Freddy makes a bet with bully/sister and has to overcome some obstacle). It gets old. NOW. I am complaining about a book aimed at 6-7 year -old children. That's why I still give it 2 stars. Even though my kids have complained about the repetitive nature of the books, they still enjoy them. Whatever. I can't stand them anymore. Just wanted teachers/parents to know what are in these things.

More Like 'Tude Trouble!
I bought this for my eight year old daughter because it was on her summer reading list. Most of the books on her reading list we both really enjoyed, but this is not one of them. It started out cute when Freddy was at school, but when he went home and his family was screaming at each other, I realized this is not a good book for children. My daughter told me to stop reading it, because she didn't like the main character or his family. Usually I try to talk her into finishing the book, but this time I agreed with her. The fact that Freddy would go to any lengths to pull one of his teeth out 'was crazy and gross', according to her and she found it upsetting. She didn't like hearing about blood either. Probably some kids wouldn't mind a little blood and loose teeth, but if your child is squeamish at all, I'd skip this. My daughter is old enough to know better, but like some other reviewers have said, a younger child make imitate some of the behaviors in this book. I won't be buying any more of this series, that's for sure, and I don't recommend it.

Great 1st grade chapter book
This book was a great one for my 6 year old son who has 4 wobbly teeth. He loves all the Ready Freddy books we have ordered thus far but this one has a connection to him. We have to read it at least once a week, and most likely until one of those teeth fall out. I love the illustrations in each chapter.
