Grandma's Wartime Kitchen: World War II and the Way We Cooked

well organized, great assortment of recipes, info blurbs on each page
Great addition to my cookbook collection, but also as part of my prepper books library. These books are gaining traction again because.. well, the 2020's haven't been kind. And as we approach mid 2022, things are not looking up. In fact, I would say that if you haven't been stocking up, you will be feeling the pain of it later as prices surge, availability dwindles, and who knows how much worse the war is going to get (and how deeply it will affect US for years to come). So, learn how to make do with less, make a point to have supplies on hand. Learn to be creative. If you are the type to engage in "just in time" buying, then you may want to consider adding a few extra items to your order, more often. Have some food on hand to work with, have some spices, oils, variety. Learn how to cook, bake frugally. Finding some frugal recipe books, and even wartime recipe books can be helpful. Ration for yourself before it is decided for you. Learn how to make bread, and how to make use of a variety of food items. A book like this can help a lot. The picture of the US "war time rationing" tickets should be enough to get your butt in gear.A few recipes using corn syrup. FYI, this is very different than high fructose corn syrup. Also, it was a much cheaper and readily available option to sugar (sugar rationing!). So if these recipes look doable to you, and you want to make swaps, then do so now. Stock what you eat, eat what you stock.I love the little blurbs about each recipe. I also have their, which I equally recommendGrandmas Wartime Baking Book

Good book ...
Another great recipe book on how our grandmothers and mothers made do with what they had to prepare delicious meals. A great trip down memory lane.

Interesting read with lots of memories
It's a nice read. Memories of how my mom cooked and good examples for today when food is so costly.

Older Era...
I wasn't sure if I would like this cookbook, after perusing through it, I became fascinated with the recipes. I'm positive my grandmother's & aunts rustled up some if not quite a few of these tasty meals during my parents years of growing up during WWII. Now that I'm a grandmother, I would like to pick up where my family left off! 😊

Great for today as well and good history
Young cooks could learn a lot from this book. So many didn't ever learn to cook from scratch and so I have noticed that a lot of the newer standard cookbooks have been dumbed down considerably. This book not only shows that people can eat well and healthily on a severely restricted budget, but also teaches how to do so in dire circumstances which todays young cooks know nothing about especially since so many know so little history. Very informative, very useful and enlightening.
