Product Description A combination headgear and faceshield safety system. Includes H8A ratchet headgear and WP96 polycarbonate faceshield. Adjustable ratchet suspension. Molded faceshield provides impact protection. Requires protective eyewear, sold separately. From the Manufacturer 3M™ Ratchet Headgear H8A, Head and Face Protection 82783-00000, helps provide head and face protection in working environments with sparks, chips, and debris. This safety system includes ratchet headgear and a polycarbonate faceshield. An adjustable thirteen position ratchet suspension and five position crown strap offer customized settings for individual users. The clear, molded faceshield provides visibility and high impact protection. Note: Protective eyewear/goggles (sold separately) are required to be worn at all times with the faceshield. This headgear and polycarbonate faceshield meets the performance requirements of ANSI Z87.1-2010. The set includes H8A ratchet headgear and WP96 polycarbonate faceshield. Faceshield measures 9” x 14.25”. Workers performing tasks in which flying sparks or particles are present should wear protection to shield their face and head. Industries in which this is typically true include metalworking, utilities, and woodworking. Because the shield does not fully enclose the face, protective eyewear/goggles are required to be worn to safeguard eyes. For more than a century, 3M has applied innovation and technology to improving our customers’ lives and supporting their business goals. How did 3M manage to screw this up?
How did they manage to screw this up? It has a nice sturdy shield, top, and bands - it even looks good!. Why the one star review? I knew the moment I put this on that the design of this thing was junk. I've had an old green one from Home Depot for years and thought I'd upgrade even though I never had a problem with it. The moment I put this thing on it was resting on my nose and about a quarter inch from my eyes, the shield practically rests on your face - my old one has a good inch of room from my face to the mask. I have a normal sized head. I thought - "hey, there must be some adjustment here" - but nope. You can only adjust the top band that is used to tension the head band. You can make it higher or lower on, but you can't make it further from your face. The knobs used to tighten the tilt of the mask don't work. So basically, you have a nice looking mask with high quality materials that rests on your nose and will touch your eyelashes and lips if you move your head up and down. Ifif you tilt it up, the moment you look down it goes back on to your nose. Look elsewhere.

Frustrating During Covid
I purchased this because I work in the medical field with direct contact with Covid-19 patients. This is a tad bit frustrating, I ordered a few "sturdier" more comfortable face shields for longer duration use than the disposable plastic ones. Yes, I chose 3m for its long time name.It took 9 days to come, which actually wasn't a big deal. However, the packaging I noticed was already taped back together like it had been opened. That also was no problem being busy and tired. However, 1. There were multiple small scratches already on the shield, I couldn't really take pictures to show. Then 2. THE MIDDLE WON'T CONNECT SO I CAN'T EVEN USE IT. It's a little frustrating to wait 5 more days for a replacement. I really hope it is worth it and can update the review. I bought a few, because I'm wearing shields all day 40-60 hours a day. I really thought the 3m one would be my go to, it seems to be the most comfortable but like I said, I can't use it yet.

I wanted something 3M rated for reliability and protection and this is a nice quality shield with the features I looked for
This is a review of the 3M Ratchet Headgear H8A Head and Face Protector.Summary – Doing work with a grinder leaves a face shield a must. I wanted something 3M rated for reliability and protection and this is a nice quality shield with the features I looked for. This uses a WP96 Polycarbonate face shield which measures 9” wide by 14.25” tall. The shield further meets requirements for ANSI Z87.1 – 2010. In simple terms, this just means it is high impact and meets certain industry standards for those who have jobs that require same.To install the shield, simply align the side shield cut outs to match the interior side mounts and when you pull the shield into a vertical position, the front latch will lock into place.**Which makes this a nice headset as you can then just replace the face shield if it becomes damaged or used to a point you need to replace. (Replacement shields I have seen as low as $5 to $10.The fit was great on my medium sized head and was comfortable. I like how it uses a ratchet mechanism which makes for quick easy adjustments. Ratchet has 13 positions to rotate and adjust with. The upper headrest once on allows for an easy adjustment of the shield. (Five positions.)Downfalls would entail the helmet lacking padding on the read of the head support system and pricing was a little on the high side when compared to similar masks with same ratings.Note – Sounds gross, however, if you use your spit and rub the interior of the mask before using, it will eliminate the potential fog up from your breath. Or you can use special products designed to do this. Mine does not seem to fog up to a point of being a problem unless I begin getting a good workout going with the task at hand.

The best for me.
I have an average to average-large head, depending on the sizing chart you look at.This is by far the most comfortable face shield I've used, to the point I almost forget it's on.There's almost no distortion at all, it's crystal clear, and while it does fog slightly I find breathing though my nose eliminates it almost entirely.I can't recommend this enough, A++Things to note: Polycarbonate is tough stuff, but it isn't immune to scratches. I don't use my shirt, and I definitely don't use a work-gloved hand to wipe it off. Use some cheap automotive micro-fiber towels and a light touch to clean it off and things should go fine. The shields are replaceable. To assemble, take note of the retention clips and line up the holes. Use a moderate-firm pressure and it should pop right in.(If this seems obvious? You might be surprised. I've seen several asking about these topics.)

Good for light duty grinding
GF bought me an angle grinder for Xmas and insisted I get a face shield after I had a tiny grinding disc on my Dremel break and strike me in the cheek, scratching me up a bit. Selected this unit because I've usually heard good things about 3M PPE, and my hard hat at work is a 3M full brim hat with a nearly identical ratcheting system. Since that one could fit my large noggin, figured this would too, which it does. The actual shield portion is removable and replaceable if need be. Provides full face protection, along with some of the neck, without being too in the way if you move your head around. I also use a knotted wire wheel on my grinder, which has a tendency to fling wires as they work loose (had them go through coveralls + two shirts), but they haven't scratched the face shield at all.

Perfect for grinding
I use this primarily for grinding steel and I am confident that this will continue to protect my face when things inevitably fly in that direction. The polycarbonate lens has taken all sorts of abuse from flying sparks and debris and has held up well. Actually the lens is thick enough (and surprisingly scratch resistant) that I imagine it could take a lot more than what I've thrown at it.The headband is adjustable enough and the shield large enough that pretty much everyone should be alright fit-wise. I wear this with bulky safety goggles and sometimes a half-mask respirator without a problem. I'm also able to wear big earmuff-style hearing protection at the same time too.

Mediocre purchase
i purchased two of these and one had been opened and taped shut. I could not fix the visor to headset on this one so will need to return it. The other fits together. Not too comfortable , head tightenening mechanism is poor. Will work for covid spray protection for short term, but over priced for what it is.

Recomendable
Excelente producto. Buena calidad. Después de un tiempo la matraca de ajuste se brinca un diente de ajuste.

Excellent when cutting wood on a table saw
Excellent when cutting wood on a table saw, or using a grinder, very good when using a gas powered hand held grass trimmer. stops all sorts of flinging debris.
