Diane Swanson, working in collaboration with the Gareth Stevens Publishing Company, has written one of their series of books on animals under the "Welcome to the World of....." series of books. She writes in a direct, informative way with a style that will allow access by grade school students. Each very short section has the same lay out. The first page is a full page, full color photo of the subject. Then comes a page of text followed by a page of mixed text and photos with a side bar on a related subject. Repeat the formula several times and..... we'er done. A young person who reads this little volume will have a strong grasp of the life cycle of a beaver and of the beaver's unique way of life. Beavers shape the landscape to suit themselves, which not many animals do. This series has teachers and schools in mind as a target market. Children who read this book will be well served.
