Kalo KAL8X2 DUAL 8-Inch Speaker Cabinet Set

I recently came across the Kalo KAL8X2 in a bricks and mortar store whilst hunting for PA equipment for our Church's Sunday School. I thought I would give it a try as the price seemed good at $170. The system includes a powered cabinet with an 8-inch woofer as well as a tweeter, and a passive cabinet with similar drivers. The powered speaker has a dual channel mixer - one line input with XLR/TRS combo or RCA connectors, and one mic input, disappointingly as a TRS connector. Seems to me the other way around, ie the mic input having the combo connector, would make more sense. Each input has its own level control knob. The other shortcoming is the audio equalisation which is by way of a single tone control rather than separate base and treble controls. There is also a 1/4inch speaker output that connects to the speakon connector on the passive cabinet, via a included speaker cable that is only about 3ft. The powered cabinet also has a USB slot and associated MP3 player with basic controlsAny disappointment in the feature set should be considered against the physical size and price point of this system. All things considered, I think you actually get a lot of bang for the buck with this. As a pro sound guy, I would say the sound tonal quality is not bad and the volume capability is reasonable as the sound carries well enough across our church hall when 100+ noisy kids are in Sunday School assembly, even if baffling a bit when the level knob gets close to max. I had a question about the on-board MP3 player and one week after submitting, I've not received a response from the manufacturer, so I am not optimistic about the level of support that is available. But if you can get it at the right price, the KAL8X2 may well be adequate for smaller PA applications
