The Shark King: Toon Books Level 3

My granddaughter is in first grade, and had seen this book in class on some audiovisual program that I don’t remember the name of. She was so happy, I bought it for and just devoured the book! She is pretty advanced in her reading, so I don’t really know what ages to recommend it for, maybe six and seven.

I sent this book for several children in Texas, New York, Hawaii. They all loved it and read it all the time. It is a great story, myth, introducing kids to Hawaiian legends. Artistry is also amazing for this wonderful story.

My son really enjoyed this book - of all the readers we got he was the most excited about this one. He read it to me out loud. The fantastical story really captured his imagination. **spoiler** If you want book about a good role model - this is not it. Nanaue steals fish and the villagers throw rocks in the pond he jumps into. He's mischievous - they're mad. THAT SAID. We still really liked this book. My son laughed out loud at the part where Nanaue keeps bringing home bigger and bigger fish. Really a break from the other readers we have and it presented the opportunity to talk about stories from different cultures.

A great book for all children! Informative about the hawaiiian culture, beautifully illustrated, and interesting mythology,

This book does have a father who leaves his family, which I think upset another reviewer. It's based on a Hawaiian story and is by a Hawaiian author. It does a great job making this traditional story readable for kids.Some words might be too hard for little kids. All our kids read the story and understood it with no help, even if they missed a word here and there. They would recommend this book to any kids in elementary school or middle school. I enjoyed it too although it was short.

My son loved this book. He is dyslexic and reading is difficult so he doesn't want to try most times. The comic book style of this book really appealed to him. He really enjoyed this book
