Mean Street means great music that is razor sharp and cuts through to the soul. Mean Street features James Cotton, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Nanette Workman / Peter Frampton, Tina Turner, James Cotton plus many others. Mean Street reflects the hard times, prison time, survival and expressions of the mean side of the blues.

Mean indeed, but a worthwhile compilation.
While this collection sometimes seems to lean toward misogyny, it presents an interesting combination of well known classics by Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Jimmy Reed and less familiar tunes by seminal Bluesmen along with a few obscurities. It includes some great sides from James Cotton in his prime, 2 rousing entries from Little Richard( Money Honey and Hound Dog),and somewhat misplaced entries from Mike Bloomfield, Barry Darnell, and Peter Frampton/Nanette Workman. All in all a fascinating group of songs with something to interest both the newcomer and aficionado. The liner notes leave a lot to be desired (Sure sounds like Buddy Guy with James Cotton on "Dealin' with the Devil").
