Painting World War II Miniatures (Schiffer Book for Hobbyists)

This is a prime example of one of the few disadvantages of buying on line. I received this book yesterday and was extremely disappointed in it. The photography was horrible and the methods used to show techniques were horrible. I was hoping for clear step by step instructions and got dark, fuzzy photographs instead. At the end of the book the Gallery they showed had pictures of the finished figures again in the poor quality as the how to. If I had seen this at a hobby shop or book store I would not have purchased it. I wish I could return it and buy another book.

Good reference work for painting WW2 miniatures

This book is a must for anyone who is interested in painting figures of the WW2 period. The techniques also work well with other periods!

The one star I gave to this book is for the number of photographs included in it. This book is not worth buying at all. The quality of the photographs is way below standard for publishing in any books. To name a few - out of focus, too dark, wrong orientation . . . and the list goes on. How can the editor at Schiffer Book miss that. Don't waste your money on this book!

This book gives a hobbyist a better idea of how to use oil paints: how to blend colors and highlight. I liked the fact that the author actually told you what colors to blend to make field grey for example; what colors to add to make the highlights etc. I wish he would have spent some time on the consistency and texture that the oils need to be. While this is a short book, I learned a lot from it. In my opinion, it taught me how to use oils more effectively then some of the more popular books, which just tell you to use oil paints, but never actually teach you how. I recommend this book to anyone who is a novice to medium ability.
