Grammatical and spelling errors cause distraction and they're on almost every page
I was so excited to get this book because Baby Doe knew a relative of mine. Then, I started reading it only to find it is poorly written with numerous grammatical errors - like a sentence that says "as HER and Horace began to pack" on page 57- it should be She and Horace.. page 77 misspells the name Elizabeth as Elisabeth page 81 says "made sure his horses WHERE very well attended to instead of WERE - also says "footmen WHERE to dress in uniform - again should be WERE. Page 82 says "snowflakes were causing "quite stir". Page 85 says Horace would have given every "DINE" he had to save the baby. She often uses OF instead of HAVE - as in "should HAVE" instead of "should OF" She seems to easily get off on tangents like huge snowflakes in Montana that have little or nothing to do with the story. She also slips off into a tangent on Jack the Ripper. Don't know why editors didn't catch the numerous errors in this book. The errors are distracting, but I hope to finish the book to see what her perspective is. In the meantime, she should take a class in grammar and get a new editor if she wants to be an effective writer.

The book was entertaining as far as the story goes. I have read many other books and researched quite a bit about Baby Doe and while I realize that much of this was fictionalized, a lot of the “facts” don’t really mesh with much of the other information out there. I would recommend this as far as a semi- fictionalized biography but if you’re in the market for something strictly researched or more biographical to the limited extent of knowledge of some parts of Baby Doe’s life, I would go elsewhere. It was an okay read, but definitely not my favorite about Baby Doe.The large amount of grammatical and spelling errors are also very distracting.

Excellent addition to the Tabor saga
I've enjoyed Tracy's other books very much, especially the tunnels book. I am also a dedicated fan of Mrs Tabor, and have read many books about her, done a lot of research -- and even wrote about her life myself. But I was surprised at much of the information in this book -- particularly the trials, which are hardly ever covered elsewhere. Certainly they present a woman who was definitely in her right mind and planning -- even if she was a tad obsessed. But never insane. This is a worthy addition to anyone's Colorado history collection -- and a must for Baby Doe fans.

This is a fresh new look at Baby Doe Tabor!
I loved the whole book Tracy Beach has written a new fresh look at Mrs. Tabor that shows that she was not only a good wife and mother but long after the death of H.A.W. Tabor she tried to protect the name. I really must say that her research gave her a great surprising way to finish the book. This book is very well written book, very easy to read, too bad there are only 5 stars!
