Truck Tailgate Assist Shock for 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 2500 3500

The tailgate on my 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 is very heavy and I have wanted a product like this for years. Now that I finally got around to buying this tailgate assist, I wonder why I didn't get it sooner. The product appears to be of high quality construction, the installation was straightforward and the result is what I needed. Now the tailgate lowers at a desirable, controlled pace which is a great advantage to this senior citizen ! Great price, well-constructed item, shipped and received quickly and performs up to expectation.

The media could not be loaded.  Im always worried my young kids will pull the gate latch, and have it drop on them... these older tailgates have some weight! Plus I prefer the newer trucks with their assist letting the gate drop soft. For the price of this I figured I'd try it. Anymore I expect lousy instructions from overseas, and basically have to figure it out or search YouTube. Surprisingly, these were very helpful and clear. Even explain some reasons for "why". The hardware has yet to be long term tested, but so far no issues on my 2004 ram 2500. Plus it's about 20 degrees right now... my OEM hood struts are not holding ro well right now. This doesn't seem to help much with lifting, but that's not a big deal for me. Maybe when it's warmer out it might.

It was definitely easy to install but the torques head wrench that came with the kit couldn't handle taking out the upper bolt on the bed , and the plastic piece that goes on the tailgate cable makes me think it might move around , but overall I'm happy with it it works great

I have been debating on purchasing this for a while. Installation was a little bit challenging the tool they provide to install the threaded rivets worked very poorly. Luckily, I was able to use an impact driver and a pair of locking pliers to finish, tightening it down. I was almost not able to get it to fasten properly. Other than that the shock and other mounting bolts, for the top worked perfectly once it was all tightened and installed the tailgate opens very softly. My woman does appreciate, how easy it is to open now. Definitely should have purchased this earlier.

Cable sticks out regardless of where I put the black piece, if I stuff the cable in while closing, it still closes funny. Also not pictured above but I cracked some of my tail light closing it. Just save your time and spend an extra $5 on a better clone.

We installed this on my 80 year old Dad's 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 with an extremely heavy tailgate. This enables him to safely open and close the tailgate.Highly recommend. Easy to install and made a world of difference.

Bad installation design. I ended up mig welding the nut to the tailgate. Still works great now.

Makes opening the tailgate much easier!
