Wallenford's quality control seriously flawed
I bought a bag for Christmas - I've done that many times in the past. I typically go with Wallenford via Amazon because it's so easy. Occasionally I'll use other suppliers and get Clifton Mount or Old Tavern Estate (my all-time fav) or RSW Estates Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee. So I'm very familiar with what JBM coffee tastes like. This bag TASTED LIKE CRAP. Imagine you get to the office one morning and find a pot of coffee. You figure someone just made it, so you pour a cup. Then you take a drink... Yes, that's what this bag of coffee tasted like - like coffee that had been burning for hours and hours. It was really icky. It's undrinkable. For $63 a pound, you have a right to expect a great, world class cup of coffee. Wallenford's quality control is terrible. And they, nor Amazon, stands behind their product.Don't waste your money on this.

It's fresh and authentic!
I ordered 8-ounces of ground, medium roast Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee (Wallenford Estate), and it arrived around noon, so I made a cup using 6 heaping tablespoons of ground coffee and one liter of Ozarka Spring Water at 200-degrees Fahrenheit using the French Press method, brewing in the French Press for approximately two minutes. The manufacturing date on the package is "February 2021", so with this being May 3, 2021 I think it's about as fresh as possible, which is good. It's fresh--not old or outdated. This is the manufacturing date, NOT the "Enjoy By" date, so it was roasted and ground in February 2021, about two months ago, which works for me in terms of freshness.I have an old-style coffee grinder with hand lever, but in this instance I was in a lazy mood, hence getting ground rather than whole beans. For reference, "six rounded tablespoons" in my terminology maps to 12 level tablespoons and probably is too strong for most folks, but so what.I have what I call the "South American Coffee Achiever Gene Matrix", which even though I am not South American gives me the ability to drink very strong coffee without becoming dead soon thereafter. In perhaps simpler medical terms, I am a "fast caffeine metabolizer". This level of strong coffee literally can be lethal to slow caffeine metabolizers. Do the research. It's not difficult to find, and it's not goofy. Slow caffeine metabolizers should NOT drink caffeinated coffee. How does it taste? It's very smooth, and it's definitely Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee.I enjoy it in a large coffee cup (approximately 12-ounces) and I add about a 1/2" of half-and-half to make it less acidic, which I do with all coffee. I enjoy very strong coffee, and as a courtesy to my stomach, I buffer it with half-and-half unless I am enjoying a small cup of Cuban coffee in public, in which case no cream or half-and-half due to cultural prohibitions for men enjoying Cuban coffee in public. A teaspoon or two of sugar is allowed, but no cream or half-and-half. It's not my culture, but I follow the rules as a courtesy, of course.I prefer very strong, dark-roasted coffee, but this is medium-roasted, hence the larger quantities. For the next cup, I will try 3 heaping tablespoons (or 6 level tablespoons), but I must admit the current cup is very nice, so perhaps i will continue with the 6 heaping tablespoons formula.I have been enjoying Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee since the mid-1980s, and the curious aspect is that it's not exotic. Instead it's the best cup of coffee available on this planet--when the Japanese don't buy all of the current crop, which they tend to do every once in a while and is one of the reasons it's so expensive.FYI: The burlap outer packaging is for looks. The coffee is inside a silver plastic coffee vacuum-packed and sealed sack with the required 3/4" vacuum plug. It's high quality packaging, and the coffee is properly protected. It's expresso or fine grind, which is good. If you want a different grind, then get whole beans and grind it yourself. This is Wallenford Estate, fresh, and it's the real stuff!

Waste of money. Pick a different brand
DO NOT BUY This tastes terrible. Received ground that were still in “date” but we’re ground last year.Very bland forward taste and incredibly bitter finish.Tastes nothing like the Jamaican blue we’ve had a loved.

It’s really from Jamaica
We order the Wallenford coffee when it’s available because it has the best flavor of coffee. While it may seem expensive, when you do the math, it’s cheaper to buy this top-notch coffee than to go to Starbucks. One pound will give approximately 21 20-ounce cups of coffee. I am happy to share my photos showing that this really is produced in Jamaica. Please note that while the Amazon description is Wallenford and ground, what we received was Island Blue and whole bean. We have a grinder, so no problem there. I’m just noting this for people who may not have a coffee grinder available and order this.

Definitely worth the purchase
Coffee is offered for the coffee lover in many and varied taste and flavors. There is always a search for that one brew that offers the right aroma and balance of taste and smooth flowing goodness from pot to taste bud. For me, it is the brew that is not bitter not overpoweringly sweet and this coffee is just exactly so. It is a perfect balance of strength and smooth flavor. Not everyone will justify the expense of true Jamaica Blue Mountain and that is understandable, but if one is a coffee drinker that appreciates a finer brew occasionally, do try this coffee once and decide for yourself. Make your own review and choose by your own experience. I recommend this coffee with 5 stars

The best coffee!
I absolutely love Wallenford Jamaican coffee! I've been drinking Wallenford Jamacain coffee for over 8 years. I ground it myself and I've bought it preground. These days it's ground for the convenience. I love the taste - smooth and soft is the best way for me to explain it. Other coffees have too bold a taste with some bitterness. Jamaican coffee is smooth soft and I love it!

when i received it it was old and didn't taste as good as I remembered it
not very fresh.when i received it it was old and didn't taste as good as I remembered it.For this price. I got it in February and the date on it was October the previous year.I made a big mistake here.I'm going to go back the the Munn family and get guaranteed fresh Mavis Bank JBM.Another problem is you can't reseal these bags, you have to cut them, that's another big disappointment. Walenford quality has slipped from when I remembered it in the 90's & early 2000s.

A Happy Customer
There is a problem here. When I made my first pot, I though it tasted ok, but definitely stale. I had trouble accepting that. These folks wouldn't ship stale coffee for sixty bucks a pound, would they? They seemed to be proud of their reputation. Then I noticed a date on their package: December 16, 2015. That means when I received this coffee on February 16, it was already two months old! If I wanted two-month-old coffee, I'd go to the local gas station and buy some Folgers. I didn't even mean to buy ground coffee; I just didn't notice it wasn't whole-bean until after I purchased it. However I figured it would be good anyway, right? I guess we all learn hard lessons now and then.Edit 3/17/2016: Wallenford contacted me, took care of me, and I am now VERY happy. Great company, great coffee!

Weak and tasteless
I'm sorry, this is just another substandard product masquerading as the 'real' Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, but I know it can't be, as I've had the REAL kind ONCE and it was wonderful. I had ordered some from a more expensive British company. It was EXPENSIVE, but it was GOOD! Unlike this stuff. I can't say it was very bitter, as some other bad versions I've also had, but it was tasteless and simply bad. And I hadn't realized until I received it that it would already be ground, which I wouldn't have minded had it been good also! In any event, I'm not a satisfied customer, so my advice would be if you really wanted the good kind of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, keep looking. I gave it two stars instead of just one merely because it wasn't VERY bitter, but that was not enough.
