Tool for Many Uses; Handy Item (Versatile)
Although it’s not a solution for ‘all’ problems encountered with threading lines through the eyes of hooks, flies, & lures, etc., the Lake Products 3-in-1 Knot Tying Tool has proven beneficial (for me) to carry it along each fishing outing. There are some limitations to what it can help to accomplish. For example, you cannot thread a line of large diameter through the eye of a smaller fly. The 6X tippet or smaller diameters (7X, 8X, etc.) are required for the smaller flies. Larger diameter tippets greater than 6X (5X, 4X, 3X, etc.) can be threaded into medium and large flies. I was skeptical at first (and sometimes still don’t accomplish all tasks that I would like to) but it has been tremendously helpful with knot tying as well. Tying tippet-knots that create leader at the end of fly line is much simpler and quicker, and so is the knot that’s needed once the line is threaded through the eye of the hook/fly. The magnet that holds the fly is relatively strong to secure the fly while threading the eye. Those who struggle with focusing (poor vision) will especially find it helpful. I’ve found it a worthwhile purchase and would recommend it to a friend. At times, it has been my only method of achieving certain tasks.

great tool
my fingers don't work as well as they used too. I got one of these tools a while back and really like it. I got this one to leave in my boat.

Good but not perfect for fly fishing
Lately, I've been really struggling in tying flies onto my leader even with high powered glasses. Often it would take 2-3 attempts to tie an improved clinch knot. Sometimes they would slip becasue they were tied improperly. After 30 years of fly fishing, my eyes and fine motor skills were letting me down. This tool was part of an effort to get me back on tract. So lets just start by saying that the magnetic eye threading feature on this tool deserves 9 stars! It really does make threading the eye of any fly/hook/popper a 10 second job. (I've tried size 2 through 16 so far). That part is ingenious! As for the knot tying feature, it works but not as slick as I would like. Namely the tip has only two places out of 360 degrees that will grab the line. You have to focus and menipulate the tip and plunger at the same time to catch the line. Aditionally, the edge of the barrel that the tip pulls in against to capture the line is sharp and sticks out enough so that it's hard to push the tool through a line loop without it catching. Sometimes whill pulling the tool through the knot, line will get caught in that spot too. I honestly find that a pair of hemostats used in the same way (as I found on YouTube) works better for tying clinch and improved clinch knots. Better yet, the Double Davy Knot is the easiest,

Almost ready to give up on fly fishing.
So I was fly-fishing on the river and nothing was biting. So I decided to try a different fly. AftER about five minutes of trying and messing with the fly threader I purchased on a auction site. I pulled the tippet up off of the thread to learn the tippet wasn't in the hook eye, and seeing my fly pop up and drop in the river. I just lost another $1.50 fly and that was my last one. So I decided to try this threader before I quit fly fishing. Not only has this threader work for me everytime. But it's also a knot tyer. So now I can change flies in about a minute, instead of the 20 minutes it did before. This thread has a ring to clip to my lanyard, or to my zinger for easy access. Wish I would have purchased years ago. I might have done more fishing! Yes! I would recommend this to anyone!

Attaching flies is now the easiest part.
Bought one for myself and liked it so much I bought three more for my fishing buddies. Makes threading a hook super easy, even on the smallest flies, and tying a clinch knot is a fast and foolproof. The book comes with instructions for something like 15 knots, but realistically I'm only going to ever use two or three. I used to use forceps to tie the knot, but I like how now I can use just one tool instead of a separate hook threader and my forceps.

Tip can come loose.
Would give this 4 stars, but first time out the tip must have been loose and came off while walking to the next run. Went to use it and the tip and half of the plastic was gone. I used it on 3 flies before this happened. Tying the clinch knot worked well. The threader is okay. I wish the build quality was like the brass tool and had the threader as well. If you buy one, maybe put some thread glue on the tip or al least make sure it's tight when you get it! I wish I had.

Great tool, but keep it together
This is a great tool for tying knots in fishing line, especially small tippet for fly fishing. However, the tip that catches the tag end of the line will unscrew and the barrel and spring it holds on will fall off. I've lost 3 barrels, springs, and tips this way. So, make sure to keep the tip screwed on tight. I may give Loctite a try to keep the tip from coming loose. Otherwise, it's a great tool to have. I wouldn't be on the trout stream without one.
