Easy, Delicious Food
I buy a lot of cookbooks--too many. Simply is one of my absolute favorites! Lovely, simple, healthy recipes. The Curry Parmesan Toasts rock my world! Crispy cheese, curry and french toast--who would've known such a simple yet complex combination could become my favorite 15 minute meal? The red bean and sweet potato curry is also divine, and there are a whole bunch of other recipes I can't wait to try. I own a couple of Sabrina Ghayour's cookbooks (Sirocco, Bazaar). I love them too, but Simply is the one I find myself using most.

Everyone needs this cookbook!
I checked the cookbook out from the library, and sat down with my stack of sticky notes to mark things I wanted to make. Several pages in I had given up on sticky notes and ordered my own copy because I wanted to make EVERYTHING! I have had the cookbook less than 2 weeks now and have made about a dozen things and they’ve all been amazing. This has become my favorite cookbook I’ve ever had. (Btw I almost never write reviews but just had to share because this cookbook is amazing.)Edited to add, 4 months and many more meals from this cookbook later, it is still my favorite!

We spent a week cooking from this book for our cookbook blog. Read about the dishes we made!
This is the second of five cookbooks from author Sabrina Ghayour we've featured. The previous book, 'Bazaar', focused on vegetarian dishes. This new release embarks on a path to make her childhood Persian recipes accessible for home cooks. After a brief, two-page introduction, you dive right into the first of over 100 bold, vibrant dishes that explore all the flavors the Middle East region has to offer. Divided into just a few chapters, the focus is on easy techniques and ingredients that serve to inspire cooks and enable them to make a successful, delicious meal. With the exception of the self-sabotaged turmeric chicken kabobs mentioned below, we encountered no issues while working our way through this book - resulting in a stress-free week of delicious food! Here are the dishes we chose:• Cauliflower & Cumin Soup - Cauliflower is a familiar ingredient in our kitchen. Although the final dish was comforting and delicious, we would likely make a few adjustments if we were to make this again. Specifically, we'd roast the cauliflower instead of simmering it in water. About that water. We used some homemade vegetable broth. This is our general substitute whenever a recipe calls for water. We assume the recipe was developed this way in an effort to keep the preparation as simple as possible. Just be aware that a few simple changes will yield huge improvements in flavor.• Roasted Nectarines with Labneh, Herbs & Honey - With nectarines at their peak, we purchased several to use in this dish, as well as another we had planned. We also decided to try labneh. We usually substitute for Greek yogurt because we always have that on hand. Roasting the nectarines resulted in perfectly blistered, jammy flesh. We suspect grilling would work just as well. Once that step is completed, assembly is quick, easy and impressive! Try this dish at your next outdoor gathering.• Smoky Beef, Potato & Pea Pan-Fry with Eggs & Yogurt - Nothing wrong with this dish! We took one liberty with the preparation - opting to air fry the potatoes in our Instant Pot instead of frying them in oil. This results in a perfectly charred outer skin and a soft, creamy center. We added these to the pan at the same time as the eggs. A word about the ground beef we used: It came courtesy of a local farm and is way better than most store-bought options. The color and grind are far superior - with none of that unappealing "slime" you may be accustomed to. Again, cumin, paprika and turmeric make an appearance. Eggs are added to "wells' created in the mixture. After a brief trip in the oven (be sure to keep a close eye on them to avoid overcooking!), there's nothing left to do but stuff your face with this goodness.• Sticky Peach & Halloumi Skewers - We've said it many times before but it's worth repeating: We love halloumi! Pan frying the slices ensures they have a pleasant char while becoming slightly melted. Next, they are coated with a "glaze" of apricot jam, dried chili flake, thyme and granulated garlic. Talk about a flavor bomb! Nectarines were enlisted instead of peaches. Place a platter of these in front of your hungry dinner guests and see how long they last.• Grilled Pineapple & Potato Kari - Introducing pineapple to a savory dish is a challenge. It's like the party guest that drinks too much and stays too long. And, don't even get us started on pineapple pizza (what kind of animal does that?!) On paper, this recipe sounds intriguing. However, the intense sweetness of the pineapple was ultimately no match for the other ingredients. The balance was off. Additionally, the spice mixture of cumin, fennel, mustard seeds, turmeric and chili was overpowered by the addition of cinnamon. There's a kernel of a good idea here. It just needs some revision to get it right.• Turmeric, Orange & Coconut Rice Pudding - This recipe had us at the mention of turmeric. Be mindful that a little goes a long way. We grated two small pieces and the flavor level was assertive, yet pleasant. Depending on how you feel about turmeric, you may want to use less. Coconut milk, vanilla and orange zest / juice make perfect companions. Since the recipe specifies a short grain rice, we chose arborio. While the results were fine, it took forever to cook (think risotto)! Much longer than the recipe advised.• Turmeric Chicken Kebabs - No photographs were taken of this dish. There may have been wine involved. Let's just leave it at that.

Beautiful, simplified, vegetable-centric, Middle-Eastern cuisine
Ghayour provides a variety of gorgeous, colorful, dishes, adapted for the American cook. Everything from appetizers to desserts, simple suppers to more banquet-appropiate meals. The author provides many vegetarian options, and the dishes with meat, chicken, and fish are heavy on grains and vegetables. So many of these meals looked appealing: I would have a hard time selecting the first to try out. These recipes seem created for a home cook with average experience.

Needs translating from grams and centigrade to ounces and Fahrenheit.
Beautiful photos, but need a gas stove and knowledge of the metric system to use this cookbook. It also calls for ingredients that are difficult to find. I'd ask for a refund, but I only paid 99 cents.

Easy, fast, and delicious
This is one of my favourite weeknight cookbooks ever! I have made so many recipes from this book, and some have become family favourites (the salmon with rose harissa -- do buy Belazu rose harissa, because the flavour is amazing and you will use it for many other recipes as well -- Ottolenghi and Jamie Oliver recipes call for it too).I love this book, and highly recommend it!
