Order by WEIGHT!
Research led me to this face/eye protector for my recently R eye blinded dog to help prevent bumping into things and keep him from scratching during healing. A great idea and a great product...HOWEVER...when you order...pay close attention to the weight chart which shows overlap between sizes!!! Especially between X-lg, Lg, and Med. My dog's head measured for X-Lg, but weight was squarely in the Lg category...Charts recommended sizing down. Ordered a Lg. However, this was too large! Looking back at weight charts again, I noticed the weight overlap between Med and Lg, and found that he actually needed a Med because he has a slight build. Moral of the story: GO BY WEIGHT, NOT LENGTH if your dog as a slender build! You can always cut away along the pre-scored nose area to compensate for length.

Great purchase - my dog and I are very pleased
I purchased this item for my dog to use following surgery to remove a growth from his eyelid. The item was received much faster than expected despite not being eligible for Prime shipping. It was a little awkward to assemble but I eventually got it right. It fits well and is doing a fantastic job of keeping my dog from pulling out his stitches. He was sent him from the vet with a giant e-collar/cone that we kept on for the first night. With the cone, he walk into walls, chairs, the garbage can, door frames etc, knocked things off of shelves & tables and was very frustrated. He was miserable and could not get comfortable. The next day, we put the Optivizor on him and he was so much happier. He no longer walked into things and was so much more relaxed. The adjustablility is nice - while he is defintely a large dog at 80lbs+, he does have kind of a small head so we used the shortest setting and trimmed the visor using the score marks already present. The only thing I can say that would be an improvement would be to provide a picture of the chart on the attached instruction tag to assist buyers in figuring out which size would be best suited for their pet as weight is not the only factor that determines fit. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it for any dog that needs to have their eyes or mouth protected.

This thing is huge!
First off, the seller was great. The product shipped quickly and arrived in perfect condition (5/5 stars). However, the product itself leaves a little bit to be desired.I ordered this as eye protection for an active dog with visual impairment that must frequently go outside into an area of rough vegetation (lots of tall grass, sharp twigs, berry brambles, & other vegetation hazards). This thing is *huge*. I had ordered down a size (both based on ideal weight & based on head measurements), and yet the straps still need to be cranked down all the way for it to barely fit my oversized dog. Second, the straps themselves are flimsy Velcro, with no easy way to stabilize the device to a collar, so it moves around quite a bit on my dog’s head. Because of the sizing issues, the Velcro straps easily come undone on their own. I think that fabric straps with some sort of self buckle (double D rings, belt buckle, plastic quick release, etc) would work much better. A better way to anchor the visor in place (e.g. collar buckle, harness attachments, etc) would also probably help.

A good thought, but didn't meet expectations
My dog just went through cataracts surgery. 3 weeks in the cone. We spent alot of time researching options besides the cone all the time. Out vet mentioned this visor, so we tried it. First, I'd like the say the design is close to being a good design. But the flaws are pretty significant when you have a dog that can't have anything in or around it's eyes. We took the proper measurements and got the visor in the mail. It came quickly, much faster than the estimated shipping. We put it on our dog and it fit, but there is nothing to keep it from sliding down. It will creep all the way over his eyes if we weren't watching it. We read reviews about tying it off on his harness, but the prevented him from sniffing anything on the ground. It wasn't worth the money. I will say we really wanted it to work, but unfortunately the wasn't completely there.

The ONLY thing that's worked!!
This arrived quickly and just in time to save my dogs life! She has a large golf ball sized mass on her muzzle, near the eye. It was very itchy and nothing else was working! We've had repeated emergencies and we thought we were going to lose her due to blood loss, damage to her eye and muzzle. This product prevents her from getting to the wound, which was happening with the e collars. She can no longer do any of the following: scratch the area with her paws, drag the wound through the grass/fence/trees/throughout the house/etc. She can breathe, eat/drink (we have raised bowls) on her own and she is fully protected. She was able to step on the mask with her front paws and get this off, but we've harnessed her and attached it so she can no longer do so. We are extremely pleased and I highly recommend this product.Breed: Golden Retriever Age: 13 Weight: 80lbs Size: Large

It worked and was tolerated
Worked very well for our Chocolate Lab after he had a little growth removed from eyelid. He wore it for 10 days and tolerated it better than cone of shame. We did have to trim it so it wouldn't go so far down on his nose. He was happy when he got stitches out and could remove it. It did the job. However, no written instructions other than pictures so it was initially put on backwards. Needs clearer instructions.

Key after eye surgery
Our 8 month old great dane puppy needed to have eye surgery, and when the surgeon told us to order the Optivisor for her and that she would need to wear it for 4 weeks I cried because I thought there was NO way she would tolerate this. Well she's been wearing it for 2 weeks now, and it allows her to play with her toys, eat, we can still kiss her ears, and for the most part she doesn't mind it. This is genius and SO much better than a huge cone! I just ordered a second one as a backup because we rely on it so much for safe post-op healing. Thank you to whomever invented this!
