The Scrapbooker's Handwriting Workshop: 20 Unique Fonts to Practice and Play With

I bought this book initially to learn how to manually write letters for my son's scrapbook that I have started. I am a graphic designer so I'm always looking for interesting fonts, but they are always electronic. Long lost is the art of actual writing or drawing with a pencil or marker for me. When I saw this book, I picked it off the shelf at a local art store mainly because of the beautiful designed cover, not realizing what it was at first. Then as I flipped through the pages, I realized it could also serve for both my scrapbook needs, but also to be used for creative bulletin boards for my classroom. I recently started teaching high school graphic design and have been in need of creative things for my walls. I put the book down at the art store, opened up my iPhone and immediately ordered it online (due to cost). I've only practiced a few things so far, but I'm enjoying getting back to being artistic. I'd recommend this to anyone, the directions are simple and easy to understand and even give you pages to practice. From a design standpoint, it's well done. From a beginner artist, it's a must! Definitely worth every penny! Enjoy!

This is a great book. I've already used 3 of the fonts on embroidery projects. There are wonderful examples to follow & if you are new to learning how to "draw" new fonts then this is really a great book. She really leads you through it, or in my case, it's just a super easy to use book & has some really terrific lettering ideas. Love it.

This book is well formatted and has some good hints about how to do lettering.I really liked the way this book is laid out and the logical sequence of instruction. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I, personally, like only a few of the fonts presented in the book. Most of the fonts were ordinary and very similar. Nothing creative here in my opinion. I agree with another reviewer who said it was very basic, for beginners and not for anyone who has done lettering before even without instruction. It is an ok book and I will use it but I was expecting something better based on the description. Good for beginners.

Loved this book! Has a mix of easy and more challenging lettering styles. I practiced these and instantly added them to my sketch notes and journaling. The styles are more trendy looking than the old fashioned block letter style "scrapbooking" fonts. I haven't found any other instructional books that offer the great lettering styles this one does. Sequel, please!

I found the format of the book to be very awkward. For most of the fonts there is a page showing a font (upper/lower case, numbers, special char) followed by a chart showing the pen strokes for the font then a page to practice. Unfortunately, the how-to page and the practice page are usually on the reverse sides of a page.The book is spiral bound but at the top not the left side of the book. Plus there is a fold away cover that can't be folded out of the way.Totally awkward.Now to the fonts: too many of the fonts are very similar.Can't really fully recommend this book.

I love this book! It includes so many different fonts and practice pages. I wanted to learn how to do lettering because I am into art journaling. This book has a lot of information and is a fun way to learn.

Great book. Wonderful resource and a staple in a lot of folks libraries. Took almost a month go get to me though.

I am a big crafter, but I don't have the blessing of good handwriting.This book is fun and full of good ideas and examples to help with journaling and just everyday writing.

This book helps me create a variety of titles on my scrapbook pages. I would never be able to use the different fonts without it. A very valuable item in my scrapbook tools.

This book is really useful if you want to incorporate writing on your layouts, but, like me, don't like your handwriting. I love journalling on a page and sometimes computer printed text just looks flat against a page with lots of personal elements.I practised the first font in this book for a couple of hours and then took the plunge of producing my journalling using the font. There are plenty of guide notes on how to make sure your letters are straight and of the same size which is invaluable when you start out. I was really impressed (if I do say so myself) with my handwriting in the Easy Peasy font and it looks great on my layout. There are lots of journal fonts and title fonts in the book that you can choose from and it also gives you ideas on how to alter those fonts so for each font, you actually have about four or five alternatives as well.A useful resource for your scrapbooking library.
