Great Paint Mixer so far!
I bought this mixer as a way to mix bottles of acrylic paint, primarily for painting models. It works awesome. I would definitely recommend it for this. My only caveat is that I've had it about a week, so I hope it holds up a long time. I'll try to update this in a few months to state how it is. If you don't hear from me, it probably is still working.

Disappointed
I purchased this mixer to use for my hobby paints. It worked well out of the box for a few months and worked pretty good. After not using it for a few months I got it set up to use it again and it didn't work anymore.

Good once I got a working model
The first version was DOE but Amazon sent me a replacement. This wasn't my first choice or second even. My first choice was out of stock and the second choice got lost in the mail. I bought this for model paints. Specifically, G Paints I got from overseas. They are lacquer paints and had a lot of settling. This worked to mix them really well. There are a few things of note. It will take time to mix the paints depending on how bad they are. A new paint pot that you use pretty regularly is probably going to be perfect in 30 to 60 seconds. Something that has started to show settling? You are looking at 3 to 5 minutes. Really bad separation? 5 to 15 minutes (or more). You will know when it's done. You may need to rest your hand. You do have to actually hold it and it does mix pretty forcefully. Having an agitator (glass or steel ball) in the paint pot will help as well. You will need to change the position of the bottle from time to time to mix everything.I saw people complaining that other brands had a sweet spot that you needed to find to get it turned on. This was activated pretty effortlessly. Just push the put on the center. It doesn't have to go in the hole used by test tubes but should cover it. The top can go into that hole. One other tip I have is to shake the bottle when you plan to switch positions. I start with the bottom touching the mixer and when I go to flip it over or lean it I will give the bottle a simple shake. A lot of times this shows me what is still settled. In closing, I have to give this 4 stars. Half for the DOE model and the other half for the cable included with the mixer. It's short. Like maybe 16". I would have liked one that was 2 to 3 feet.

Excellent unit, outstanding customer service
I ordered this mixer to use for paint mixing for airbrushing. It's a bit pricey compared to some options, but it's a lot more sturdy, it's quieter (especially on a foam base), and it comes in handy for when I need to mix items in centrifuge tubes (good ol' work from home). For use with paint, highly recommended. I use the 17ml dropper bottles, primarily, and this works terrific. I usually just hold the bottles on the mixer top down, sometimes bottom down. Both work well. I've also mixed other (small) bottles of paint by holding them on their sides, top, bottom, whatever. As long as you have a good grip on it, you can mix it. Sometimes it works well to push down with the pad at the base of the fingers while holding the mixer with 3 fingers, trapping the bottle. It doesn't take long to find a good method of using the mixer! As for the vendor, the unit is packaged professionally and well protected in transit, looks great, etc. but where they really shine is customer service! I had an issue where my daughter damaged the silicone cover shortly after I bought it; I messaged the vendor asking if I could purchase a replacement cover and they simply took care of it for me. Very fast response time, very fast shipping. Greatly appreciated, highly recommended! Also, silly putty is made with silicone oil, so don't get silly putty on your mixer or it will stick fast and make the worst kind of mess!

Great at mixing hobby acrylic paints
I use this mixer to mix 12-24mL acrylic paint bottles of varied brands like Vallejo, Scale75, Army Painter, and Citadel for miniature figure painting. I chose this one based on specs/reviews and considered mixing speed, reasonable price, reliability, and looks (since it would sit prominently on my desk). So far, it delivers in providing low-effort mixing by just pressing the paint bottle into the indentation on the top of the mixer. My arms are saved from periodic spastic shaking. The bottles fit perfectly in the indentation and it is seems relatively quiet for what it does. Noise can be further dampened by changing the surface it sits on (like a mouse pad). I usually mix it upright first then press the bottle upside down a bit for another angle. I also usually add an agitator ball into the bottles so I can hear them rattling around inside. I have not had the mixer for very long but it has been holding up over the past month over frequent painting sessions with no problems. Looks-wise, it looks discrete and as stylish as a paint mixer could (and not like chemistry lab equipment).

More powerful and quieter than I expected
Solid little machine. Nice heavy base to keep it in place. Provides a strong mixing action. It is significantly quieter than I expected when running. I've been using it daily and am happy with the results. Remember- you have to give the mixer some time to do its job- don't expect to put in on there for 15 seconds and be done- some paints take longer than others to mix well. I've add mixing balls to some of my hard to mix paints and find that combination works wonders. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase.

Not for Nail Polish
If you are wanting this for nail polish I would say do not get it. My polishes are only maybe 6 mths old and some of my flakes were on one side of the bottle. It did not evenly mix, as well as when I had some polishes that were just separated. I think a higher rpm perhaps would be better but I bought the one speed one for 79.99
