Di Morrissey = good reading
Brilliant, as usual. You can always rely on Di Morrissey for a great read. She researches very well, her stories usually have a message, some romance and some kind of thrill & mystery. I loved this book, as I have all of her books. (I have read every one!) May she continue to write for a long time to come. Her books could all be made into great movies - then again, I wouldn't want any parts cut!Judy. (NSW Australia).

Myanmar History
I read this in preparation for a trip to Myanmar. The history leading into the story was well written & well researched & an interesting enjoyable read. I am not a Di Morrissey fan but I enjoyed this book because of my interest in Myanmar. The Gold Coast story & the trials & tribulations of the young family were important but not so well written, with parts of it feeling like a page filler rather than the making of a good story. Some excellent observations of Myanmar & for that reason I would recommend it.

The Golden Land
This is not her best book. Slow to start, diction not terribly enthusing. The history of Burma interesting but story line is weak & repetitive. Dissappointed

The Golden Land by Di Morrisey
The story line got me in straight away, after reading the sample I wanted to buy the book to keep on reading. Well thought out and presented the time and period including documented history.I have never been to this region of the world. I am planning my holiday now to include Myanmar. An excellent read and typical of this writer ... difficult to put her books down.

Slow going in parts but a strong finish
Overall I enjoyed this book but I found it a bit slow in places. The story starts in the past, during British Colonial days, then it moves to modern day Queensland and this is where it bogs down in parts. The interweaving of the life of Natalie and her family with the discovery of the Burmese relic seems awkward at times, but eventually the pace picked up, and I finally found the classic Di Morrissey magic that infuses all of her books and makes them so enjoyable.I think the reason the book is slow to build is that, uncharacteristically for this author, the introduction of the Burmese plight is heavier going than I would like to see. Don't get me wrong, the plight of ordinary Burmese people, particularly women, is dire indeed and I commend Di Morrissey for highlighting this issue in this book. However sometimes this topic overpowered the flow of the story and a couple of times I almost gave up reading it.I'm glad I persevered through those chapters because the rest of the book was delightful, especially once the story moved back to Burma. I loved the touch of mystery and the colourful setting. And when I reached the final page I had that wonderful sense of warm satisfaction that finishing a good book always brings to me.

The Golden Land is a golden book
This page-turning book was another exceptional read from the wonderful author.Every Di Morressey book is an education, and this one is no exception. I learned so much about Burma that I am now longing to go there. All of this and a great story line as well. What more could you ask?

Interesting story with links to Burma.
Although the story had some interesting twists, it was a little slow and seemed to be unnecessarily padded to add length. Disappointing.

The Golden Land
Iwould like to be able to speak to Di Morssey regarding the Gold Coast location of this book.l also so lived in Taylor Street.Mistified I revisited this location and there is only one house in the whole of Taylor street on the canal at Biggera Waters this house belonged to Muriel and has not been renovated since she passed away.So I imagine this to be Authors lienceThis first part of the book was interesting and enjoyable. The locations I know well and have visited many times. However the second part of this book read as a very well written travel logThis book sounded to me that it possibly had a special meaning to Miss MorriseyBurma a land still of mystery and romanceI was there to film in 1962. These people were shy tiny beautiful people hideing behind their umbrells to avoid being FilmedI enjoyed reading this book but do not consider it to be Di Morriesys best novel
