A Great Way to Advance Your Writing and Prepare for a Higher Edu. Level
I bought this book to help me learn how to write college level papers. After taking English 102 last semester, I realized there was a huge gab in my education. I was not prepared to go from writing 4-7 page papers to 12 page papers. I went from being a straight 'A' student, to failing my first class. So this summer I bought six books on college writting. After reading and re-reading every page, then writing a few practice essays, I can honestly say this book was the one that gave me what I needed. You can use it in any chapter order as you go through the process of writing. Or read it front to back to understand a better way to write research papers.

Good, but too focused on humanities.
This was a pretty good guide, but it's not easy to adapt to science topics because it tended to use examples that were mostly focused on political persuasion. What if I'm trying to write a research paper on "What is the best algorithm to use for image recognition and why?". Maybe there's more than one right answer for different cases, so there wouldn't be one answer and one working hypothesis, but there would be an exploration of the topic space. In a political discussion, usually writers have one right answer to a social or political question in mind, but writing for a practicing science audience, or writing a "review" article it's more important to tie visits to various areas of a topic into a narrative and I would like to have seen more information on how to do that.

Book needs another thorough editorial review for spelling and grammar errors.
I'm not trying to be a grammar Nazi, but I've already seen over 6 careless typos and misspellings after reading4 or 5 chapters. So far, I noticed two sentences with subject and verb disagreement issues. The book's authoritativestatus quickly becomes questionable especially when its author makes obvious spelling and grammar errors.I wish I knew the page numbers, but the book needs to get another thorough editorial review before its official publication. In addition, several ideas are redundantly repeated as if a student is trying to increase his or heressay's length by repeating the same concepts in paraphrased words.

We had to read this book for two of my introductory writing classes at Boston University. While I'd never read it voluntarily or on my own, it was very helpful when it came to constructing essays in college.

... a solid introduction and all you will need, to discover the best practices of writing an outstanding research paper.
The complete manual on how to write a coherent research paper, with authority and clarity. The book contains grammatical references, helpful tip boxes, examples, and guidelines throughout. A real treasure for advanced high school students, college students, and instructors of writing. The most useful book in my writer's library.

very useful
I bought it for a history class I had to take and it was very helpful in teaching how to format research papers and helped in the researching process. Not overly entertaining but VERY useful. I would highly recommend.
