Great product Easy install
So far it’s working great, I mounted it in the crawl space under the kitchen sink and put it inline with the hot water pipe that feeds the kitchen sink. No more wasting water during a long wait for the hot water to get there. I timed it and I’m now getting hot water in 6 seconds. This is the 4 gallon but the 2.5 would probably have been big enough. I added a PVC pipe to the release valve on top and a plastic tub underneath just in case the pressure valve ever does a release.

Good product
More than a year using this product and I am convinced that it is the best I have ever had. He has not given me any problems and my food. Trock is still running at 100%, it really is wonderful. I am loving him. Maybe it takes a long time to do this review. But believe me, this is the most real review you will find about this product.

Great Improvement To My Kitchen. Just Be Sure To Check The Size
This 4 gallon mini-tank heater is perfect for my kitchen. The total cost for the tank and the installation was about $325.00—higher in my case because the tank did not quite fit under the sink and I had to move it to a cabinet 6 feet away, on the other side of the dishwasher. This added the cost of two 6 foot hoses, two brass connectors, and a 12 guage extension cord. The normal cost would be under $300. I opted to abandon the hot water at the sink and run only cold water into the mini-tank. This way, running hot water in the sink never impacts my gas water heater. The downside is that I can run out of hot water at the sink, if I use too much at once, but the upside is that it saves a lot more energy and water. By turning up the temperature on the Bosch to ¾, I have eliminated the chance of running out for my own needs. My sink is located about 30 feet from my water heater, which is actually more like 40’ of piping. It was taking a good 30 seconds to get hot water every time, and I started collecting the 2 gallons of wasted cold water for my outdoor garden. Now the hot is basically instant. Because of the unusual 6’ distance, it takes one second to get hot water. If it were under the sink it would be quicker. Installation was quite easy. Even with this less desirable location, the hoses and extension cord passed easily behind the dishwasher. I did it myself, no plumber or electrician required. Why not get a demand water heater for the kitchen sink? Money. Any demand water heater you buy will require a new, dedicated electrical line with a dedicated breaker. This will easily cost you $1500 or more for the electrician to install it. A demand water heater retrofit really only makes sense if you are replacing your main water heater, and in my case, I would STILL want my mini-tank, because the distance problem would not be solved. It would make some sense to have a demand water heater installed at the sink for NEW HOME construction, but the retrofit is far too expensive to justify. Now that I have converted my sink hot water usage from gas to electric, I can start working on converting to solar. Get this mini-tank. It will save you water and energy, even if you connect it to the hot water line. What you will need for a standard, under-the-sink installation: 2 ½”npt to 3/8” compression hoses, 2’ long 1 3/8” compression tee 1 3/8” female to female connector (male on both ends) Aluminum water heater pan You will use the connector to connect the 2’long 3/8” hose to the hot water hose for the sink tap. For my installation, I used the following: 2 ½” npt to 3/8” compression hoses, 1’ long 2 3/8” dishwasher supply hoses, 6’ long 3 3/8” female to female connectors, two to connect the 1’ hoses to the 6’ hoses, 1 3/8” compression tee 1 12 gauge extension cord, 8’ long Aluminum water heater pan Depending on your kitchen and location, you may want to plumb a PVC pipe into the over-pressure valve and either to a floor drain or to the outside. My kitchen has waterproof tile floors, so I can take a chance on an overflow filling the drain pan and spilling out onto the kitchen floor. I can just mop it up. I connected the 6’ DW supply hoses to the 1’ hoses. It was the easiest way to get the long 3/8” compression hoses to connect to the ½” npt connections at the water heater. Oh also, you need a good flashlight or headlamp, and a couple of pairs of adjustable spanners (small crescent wrenches). Note: Technically, you will need an electrician to install the 7 gallon version, but it does not require a new or dedicated circuit, as it still only pulls 12 amps. If you are comfortable connecting the electrical line into your existing box, you will be OK. Add a little cost for connectors or possibly a larger electrical box. In some municipalities, you may need a permit and inspection because this may qualify as adding an electrical circuit. The 7 gallon would be nice, but it also takes longer for the tank to heat and takes up more room. All good products though. I updated this on 3/19/2022 to correct some typos.

Buy at your own risk
This is the first time that I have ever reviewed a product, good or bad. However I feel I need to. Do NOT buy this product. I did and less than 12 months in use the tank leaked during the night. No small leak either, I was in kitchen about 1:30 am no leaking and by 6 am water all over floor with seepage through basement ceiling. Messy and costly clean up. Unit was recommended by contractor as he had installed in his home and others in years past with no faulty issues. Mine was installed in late June 2023. It worked well initially and I was thrilled. Determined leak from tank itself not at any connections points. Unit has 8 year tank leakage warranty. Note reviews have been more negative since the fall of 2023. Question if Bosch had quality control change in past couple years. Label with serial number notes being made in China now. Correlation ??? I contacted Bosch per warranty and told to have contractor contact their tech support. He did and was given instructions to take apart, photos etc. routine needed to have Bosch decide IF qualified for warranty replacement coverage. Contractor asked Bosch tech about noted history of water leakage issues in the recent year and tech was totally SILENT. Contractor asked if he was still on phone and tech did then respond he was but would not address leakage problems. This makes me suspect Bosch is aware of problem. I told contractor not to bother with trying to obtain replacement as I am NOT interested in dealing with water all over again. However I did not expect partial cash refund do to earlier responses from Bosch's customer service but I called again and asked if they had partial cash refund option. Wasn't surprised that they didn't but it DID surprise me that I was told to have contractor call Amazon and seek refund from them. WHY?? Decided to play the game and I shared experience with Amazon's customer service assistant, no surprise, no partial refund there either. Point made. Amazon is aware of issue in selling this product..if they choose to continue to....BUYER BE WARE.. YOU ARE WAISTING YOUR MONEY AND RISK ADDITIONAL EXPENSE IN WATER DAMAGE REPAIRS. Good luck.

Great! But only lasts 3 years
I have bought 3 of these over the years for underneath our kitchen sink, which is far from the house water heater. It's so awesome to have instant hot water instead of hot water in 3 minutes. It is fairly easy to install if you know a little bit about plumbing. You'll have to get a couple of extra water lines and connectors from your hardware store. All of that said, they ONLY LAST ABOUT 3 YEARS. That even includes replacing the anode rod. I also highly recommend putting the unit in a big tray of some sort to catch overflow as well as a water detector in the tray, because if the unit starts to leak or overflow, you want to know immediately and not after water is all over your floors.

Great little hot water heater!
This is my 3rd time purchasing these tanks... I bought one 2 years ago so I could use it with my off grid solar.. 2 years it's been and it's still going strong, so I decided to buy 2 more.. 1 to replace my 40 gallon electric hot water heater and another for a spare ( prepping)... I don't know what some people are complaining about on the few bad reviews, I mean don't you people have any brains or common sense?.. it's a 7 gallon hot water heater, you can't expect a 20 minute hot shower but I can get a 10 to 12 minute shower and I like pretty warm showers... Plus on top of that it uses less than 1\3 of the electric my 40 gallon heater did, plus I can run it on solar or a small generator, it takes about 35 minutes to fully recover, and seems well built and judging from the other one I put in 2 years ago seems quite reliable.. My only complaint is I bought them returned.. one was brand new and never installed so I put that one in my preps.. the other however was installed by a sloppy plumber who marked it up with pipe dope and gouged it quite a bit.. I installed that one, it works great but should've been less than 204.00 in my opinion which was marked as like new.. but anyways no fault of the hot water heater, just incompetent people, but I saved 160 dollars buying 2 of them though so I can live with it having a few marks back in a closet where no one can see it anyways... I highly recommend these water heaters from having one for over 2 years now and it has been 100% problem free and I have 2 of them operating in my home, one does my downstairs bathroom and kitchen and the other does my upstairs bathroom and laundry room.. the money you'll save on electric over the life of the tank will pay for itself... Oh and by the way these small tanks heat the water up way way hotter than a regular hot water tank, so you use way less hot water taking a shower, that's way I can get a 10 to 12 minute shower, you could never hold your hand under straight hot water coming from these.. a regular hot water tank heats the water to 120 degrees where as these small tanks heat water to 140 to 160.. And they are really well insulated too will keep water hot for hours before needing to cycle on..

Instant hot water going on 5 years now
Bought this 5 years ago and placed under sink in my outdoor kitchen. It has worked well providing hot water when needed. Generally I don't run out of hot water. If I use hot water for an extended period of time, it does not take long to heat up the next batch. Getting ready to purchase another for under the sink in inside kitchen. Hope I didn't jinx it but this has been a reliable HW heater.

Doesn't get any better than this! Check power source...
I first installed the ES-4 in my shop which does not have a hot water heater. So cleaning my hands especially in freezing/sub freezing temps was very uncomfortable. My well water line is deep enough not to freeze but it's still water coming from 200+ ft underground. The install was really straight forward and simple. A longer power cord would be nice but for the price point it's a VERY minor issue. I placed it directly on my cement floor next to the sink and WOW in 10 minutes I had hot water. I was concerned that sitting on an ice cold cement shop floor would cause it to burn a lot of energy. BUT to my surprise It's so efficient that I rarely see the light come on. In fact I've only seen it come on 2-3 times with over two months of use. This tells me that it's thermal qualities are excellent. Now for the best part... I installed one in my house under the kitchen sink but never got a light or hot water :-( So I sent it back to Amazon after I tried troubleshooting the issue (which I could not figure out) and they shipped me another free. In two days I received another one and installed it. Unfortunately I had the same problem. I was thinking that it was because for some weird reason it wasn't compatible with a hot water line coming from my water heater. Because that was the only difference in installing this second unit from the original install in my shop. The reason for installing one under the kitchen sink is that my water heater is far away from my kitchen sink (freezing cold well water just like my shop) and takes a full minute to get hot water and wastes precious well water not to mention the energy waste to reheat the hot water tank. So I called Bosch tech support and they were very patient and helped me troubleshoot the issue. In just a few minutes they solved the issue. The outlet I was plugging the unit into was only energized when the garbage disposal was turned on. Duh! I felt like an idiot because I'm pretty good about troubleshooting problems. The Bosch rep was very kind and told me that I'm not the only one that has missed this simple fix. Cudos to Amazon and BOSCH for a great product and support! Check your power source... DUH!
