Estes28199 Aqua Sand, White, 5 lb

I don't know how much sand weighs so it was hard to tell how much i ordered. The bag was smaller than expected. Looks good in the fish tank and the fish haven't had any problems or complaints.

I needed more sand for a new aquarium that I'd set up since I have female fancy goldfish who are being 'harassed' by the males. I don't like using gravel and have been using Estes Marine sand for over a decade - and love it. Although this 'sand' needs to be soaked (48 hrs should do) before placing in your aquarium, once it sits, it's beautiful and easy to keep clean. This sand does not hold pockets of noxious gases like playground sand or filter sand can. This is the best substrate for goldfish!

The finer grains of sand kept getting into the water column but once everything settled made its way to the bottom and under the lager grains. Overall very good! Don’t mess with it too much, let the sand settle!

Thickest sand I’ve found

It's nice larger grain sand. Its not blindingly white but it isn't yellow. I rinsed it inside of my aquarium since I got both the same day and its 2 and a half-ish gallons. So it wasn't a big deal to sit it in the bath tub for a good rinse. It settled right to the bottom with no issues. It barely even created any clouds before I was done with the first rinse. It looks really great and I would buy it again if I ever got another tank.

I have no clue why polymer coating the silica helps in any way aside from making the sand float and rendering planting impossible unless it's mixed with gravel. I wish I was at the company meeting when that idea was pitched. "We have some perfectly inert natural grains of silica... so we were thinking it would be kind if cool to coat it with plastic, make it float and it will also look artificial like a ground up white plastic part. Yes, it will add to the cost and time of production but what the heck we can sell it for more too!"Standing ovation in the meeting room!My filter still works but I'm not sure for how long.

I won't buy this again. The sand floats and if you only use a inch thickness it will just float away to the top
