Impressed with both the quality and functionality!!!
I initially bought these shears because my dollar store kitchen shears were simply not up to par with cutting the amount of chicken I eat. Several years ago I bought a [[ASIN:B0007WFG2I Japanese Hori Hori shovel made that I use for metal detecting and gardening. I was very impressed with the quality of that blade compared to some of the junk that comes out of China. These shears completely reinforce my respect for Japanese cutlery. For fifteen dollars, they far exceeded my expectations. The blades are very thick and heavy, with real wood handles. The spring mechanism is located inside the bolt that hooks the two blades together, rather than being a piece on the exterior in between the two handles, which are rumored to break on other brands of shears. I have cut chicken and fish with these shears, and they cut through these types of meats like butter. This last weekend, my brother and I made jerky out of a bull elk. While I used a knife for the big cuts of meat, these shears made the process of trimming cuts of meat into smaller pieces effortless. Now that I have used these shears for a few weeks, I am can readily say that I would easily pay up to twice this price for these quality shears. I will be giving out more of them to family members this Christmas!!!UPDATE 30 January 2016After a few months of heavy use, my pair of scissors is still going strong!!! Something i should have pointed out in my original review that the only part of the scissors that cut meat are the flat parts of the blades. The nook used for breaking bones does not really cut anything. This is not really bothersome, but something that should be pointed out. The nook does serve its intended purpose of breaking chicken and turkey bones wonderfully. I have read a bunch of the negative reviews on here and decided to purchase a second pair, as I have seen them pop up on the shelves of a big box store recently. I am 99% sure it is the same manufacturer. This pair from the store is awful and seems to match all of the complaints on here. I think the comment below is correct in that I got a fluke pair of great scissors with the first one I purchased. Also, I do not give out five star reviews easily!!! I look for reasons to dock stars!!

Four Stars
Works great on chicken. It's a bit stiff but after using it awhile, I'm sure it'll be great.

Great for fish, bad for bones.
I've used these to process fresh chicken a handful of times at this point. They are very strong, but have a tendency to separate and misalign when working with the thicker bones. For field work, and most fish or lighter cuts, you're good, but don't put away the cleaver yet if you're working with real meat producers...

Not impressed
Not impressed. The shears are being used to cut blue crab for bait and even though the blades are thick, the pivot point does not hold them tightly together on all cuts. Some times the blades spread apart from each other and slightly jam prior to completing the cut. They look great and feel good, but perform poorly.

Better Than Competition; Still Thoroughly Disappointing at its Price Point.
So, I bought a cheap pair of Poultry Shears that broke the first time I used them because they had no tang in the plastic handle. I wanted a better pair, but didn't feel like spending $40 on something I use only occasionally. Luckily for me, this beautiful product had a radical price reduction the day I needed them! That's an important point to remember for the details of this review. This item which normally sells at $39.99 was reduced to $13.99 about a week before Thanksgiving.I'm going to hazard a guess, and I make no claim to it's accuracy because it borders on libel, that Huamo had a run of factory seconds that they are trying to dump at fire-sale prices, because the item I received does not perform as advertised. The GOOD:- Look at it! Beautifully constructed. Elegant and ergonomic design. Full tang of obviously high quality steel. This tool was clearly intended for greatness by it's designers.- Spring action. As expected. These things do not get stuck.- Bone Crunching leverage. Cuts through small bones like turkey ribs easily. Easily crunches through cartilage and ligaments to pop open wing and thigh joints. The BAD:- The blades ARE NOT SHARP.- The blades ARE NOT ALIGNED.- Not really adequate for heavier bones. (Heavire bones = turkey pelvis. I'm not talking about cow femurs here, I work entirely in the realm of 12-lb turkeys or chickens.)They can't cut skin and meat. At all. Huh? These are like the safety scissors you used in elementary school art class, where you try to cut the construction paper and instead, the paper turns sideways and slips between the blades utterly unharmed except for a little crease. Why in the world would you build a pair of shears out of high quality steel and then not bother to sharpen or tighten the blades? WHY?I do turkeys a few times a year, and I always spatchcock them. It's a pretty standard butchering technique which requires you to make a clean cut to the rear pelvis in order to completely remove the spine. I'm quite experienced with it, as I've done it MANY times, but not with great frequency. I have yet to find ANY set of poultry shears that does the full job. There are 4 things that are standard part of poultry butchering that I should be able to do:1) Cut cleanly through skin and meat. (These get an F)2) Easily dispatch ribs, wishbones and other small bones. (These get an A+)3) Have enough leverage to cut through medium bones, such as turkey pelvis, without making a splintery mess. Admittedly, this is not an easy job, but it has to be doable with a little strength. (These get a C-)4) Be able to cut through cartilage and have enough strength to pop open the major joints (These get a B+)I have cleavers and knives that will accomplish 2 of these tasks better, and I have yet to find ANY kitchen tool that will cut pelvic bones better than Garden Clippers. (Ridiculous, yet true). At $39.99, WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THESE? At $13.99, yeah sure I can use a tool that specifically cuts through ribs. Very glad I did not pay full price for these. If a little more care had been taken in properly aligning the blades, these could easily be made into a general purpose tool that serves most of its purpose reasonably well. I HOPE this was just a bad production run.

I've wanted a pair for quite a while. I've always used a pair of plain household scissors to cut up chicken and meat but those of course don't work for any thick pieces. I found them when I went to visit my Dad who had horrible knives. We ordered several new knives and these shears. Cut up chicken for fried chicken and was so impress that I bought a pair for myself when I got home. They work great, can cut up thick cuts of meat with ease. Easy to clean and look good. The price is very reasonable so buying them isn't a strain on your budget. Don't know why I waited so long to buy a pair.

Nice Item
Well made, heavy duty sheer's made in the old fashion classic look. Steel, wood and none of that plastic stuff. The shears will cut paper or chicken!
