Close to fresh as you can get!
Just be sure and use cold water to plump them up from the package. We use the fridge water with 1 ice cube. It is amazing how fast they grow. Great with Spicey vinegar and tomatoes and red onions.

Looks and tastes fake
The grapes are not plumped even after I have soaked in water 3 minutes and again in ice water for another 3 minutes. When the spines are not plumped, I tried to soak it longer—nope, still not plumped. On top of that, there’s an awful taste—even my four years old niece knows the difference and didn’t even finish one 20g bag (she could even finishes the whole box from other brands).
