Ovatel is a mini-microscope designed to allow a woman to see if or when she is fertile. This reusable fertility monitor and predictor uses saliva to determine when you are close to ovulation. You look through the mini scope to identify a specific crystallization pattern in dried saliva that occurs due to hormones released prior to the time before ovulation. The Science behind Ovatel In a woman’s body, estrogen is transmitted to the saliva from the bloodstream and causes a reaction that makes the saliva crystallize upon drying. Estrogen is always present in the body, so small amounts of crystals will be in the saliva after it dries. As the estrogen peaks during the fertile window, you will see more and more crystals in the sample. Right before ovulation, the estrogen level is so high that the crystals will make a pattern that looks like a fern leaf. This pattern means that ovulation is going to occur within 24-48 hours. Your Ovatel fertility monitor allows you to see these crystals extremely clearly. Simply put a sample of saliva on the lens, wait for it to air dry completely, and look through the lens by holding it up to a light source.
