The screws are galvanic-corrosion-avoiding brass: use them carefully!
There are several reviews complaining of poor quality screws. These reviews do not understand the issue they are facing: since the caps are copper, to avoid galvanic corrosion they cannot be used with steel (or even most stainless steel) screws. The screws that come with the caps are regular brass, a fragile metal to which you cannot apply significant torque... Breaking these screws is totally due to user error. To use the screws, drill the right size pilot hole, and carefully screw them in. I advise using a manual screwdriver if you are not sure you know how to handle brass screws: this way you won't accidentally break them off. I am using them into an ipe wood banister (very hard), and I am screwing them in very gingerly...As for the caps, they are extremely well made. I am replacing some 20-year old ones from another manufacturer that fell off due to high winds: these are much better looking and appear much better made. I am very pleased with them, so pleased that I am considering replacing even the ones that are still on.

Heavy and well made
Very high quality and heavy with a large amount of copper used in manufacture. Wish I could replace all of my deck posts with this copper cap. Have not yet attached so can’t speak to ease of installation

No sticky adhesion. Instead attaches with 2 screws which is much better.
Heavier material than I'd experienced previously at a local super store. I'm so happy with these that I've ordered more.

Nice solid copper caps, garbage screws
The caps are solid copper, and they do look nice- see the photo. They’re certainly much nicer than the anodized “copper” caps I originally bought for this project. They’re somewhat oversized for the 4x4 cedar posts, but it you center them they don’t look bad. I might yet add some trim just below the caps. One complaint: The supplied screws are garbage. They’re some sort of soft metal with a thin copper wash. They don’t match the caps, and even though I pre-drilled the screw holes, one snapped in half as I was screwing it it. It you buy this cap, I suggest throwing away the screws and using stainless steel or bronze screws, or even better, copper nails to attach the cap. Use construction adhesive to seal the caps and keep water off the end grain and use the nails to hold the caps on while the adhesive sets.

Still shiny after 5 months; sturdy.
Still shiny after 5 months atop a railing-post in the back yard. Study, appears to be real, solid copper. The attachment screws are copper-colored steel; real copper screws would probably be too soft to function.I suppose it will eventually tarnish to green. Copper does that. But it should out-last the post it is protecting.

Other DIY finish options
Solid copper, with brass plated steel screws. Polished (not very well), then lacquer coated. If you want a different copper finish, a couple of options - dark brown, or verdigris (think Statue of Liberty). Both require removing the lacquer (acetone, wear gloves). The copper will then oxidize slowly over several months to a dark brown. For verdigris, apply a thin coating of acid flux (plumbing supply, use gloves). Make sure it is acid, not rosin flux. Heat the flux with a torch to ensure it spreads evenly to a thin coating. Leave for several months, and the coating will gradually appear.Faster methods are not durable- both the brown and verdigris finishes will be persistent. First photo is after 24 hours - will take more time to complete and become persistent. If you change your mind, polish the copper to a bright finish using Brasso, and spray lacquer to preserve.

Nice looking cap for your fence post
These caps look really nice on my fence and they won’t come apart and blow away like the original copper caps I had on my fence did.
