Great item and good price!
Easily installed and makes for a BIG performance improvement. I installed this in my HP laptop as the primary drive and also ordered a new 7200 rpm hybrid drive for the secondary. Great combination!

Be warned, boy (or girl). All who purchase this SSD are bound to be disappointed themselves. Even you...
Do your self a favor and get head on over to Crucial's website. Get a newer SSD and NOT THIS ONE. I cant send it to crucial because they stopped selling these things awhile ago. I called them about this block of fail and the rep said that I should attempt to refund and look into a newer model. As to why I'm horribly disappointed with this SSD, I will tell you. The Read and Write speeds are appallingly slow. It averaged at 113mb Read and 26mb Write. Programs take painfully long to run and not to mention install. When playing games I experience stuttering and freezes. When multitasking I resort to Mobile Games while the system sorts itself out of common freezes. I cant get use my copy of Adobe Photoshop because it cant run stable. I haven't tried Blender yet for fear of what might happen.Pros:-Small?-There is nothing up my *** at the moment... so...Cons:-Falsely Advertised-Defective on Arrival-Way too small for modern day programs-Abysmal Speeds-Unstable OperationIt might be fine for Facebook Users, but it is serious Bottleneck in my Computer. My I5 4690K and GTX 970 are chain ganged to this little potato until I can get a replacement.

Died after 1.5 years
I used this for a while on my desktop until one day I booted up to find that it had corrupted windows. I was busy so I just used another drive for a while and when I came back Bios was the only think that could even detect the drive, I lost everything on it.

Great for the money.
I dont know why so many people are having problems with this drive, I am running this on an AMD windows 7 computer and my boot time is about 35 seconds, way better than a spin disk could ever do. Its only a 3gb/s sata and kinda slow for what SSD's are capable of but it works great for a boot drive. No problems so far, I did a clean windows install with the drive in AHCI mode.

The best addition I can do to my old PC, now it Fly!
I chose the five stars rating because the product meets all my expectations. After a little pain on reinstalling the OS (because it is very slow process on this SSD) I get all the benefits of speed on my old rig.I did split windows between the SSD and the old drive moving the USERS directory and the directory where the logs are kept in the old drive and keeping the rest of windows on the SSD. That way I minimize the writes to the SSD prolonging a little bit its life. I install all the essential software on the SSD but other software on the old hard drive,I recommend this product to anyone with an old PC (1 or 2 generations behind) that has a motherboard with SATA 3GB capacity who want a fast upgrade that returns the most cost/benefit for their old rig, now my PC beats most of the new I7's that I have seen.

failed
I got HDD Crucial V4 in october. Since than it failed once in 2 weeks but I could install system again and was working for another 3 weeks and than failed for good, I couldn't do anything. Unfortunately that was Christmas time and I went for over a month to see family in europe. When I was back I found out that my return time expired so I stuck with piece of trash.DON't but v4. Their deals are not because they are cool, it's because it's crap. Nobody wants to buy it and it crash in time. I wanted to ask them to change it for better brand but the option to write them is off on amazon so am writing you my experience. As I found out when regular HDD fail you still can get your data, when solid drive fail thats it, good bye so better consider spend more money and don't thing about making good deal.

Worst SSD money can buy. Don't do it!
I have been using this SSD for about 6 months now and I can safely say that buying it was a waste of my money and time. It seemed to start right - after initial install Windows boot up was fast, and applications started within 1 - 2 seconds. But then it got worse, and worse and worse over time. The whole machine just hangs for ages when trying to install new software, when starting up standard applications (e.g. Outlook) and sometimes simply browsing the web. Since then, I've tried everything that is recommended to improve SSD performance on Windows 7: AHCI, TRIM, defrag off, BIOS update, etc etc. None of it made any difference. Booting up the machine now takes forever - while the initial Windows log on appears pretty quickly (about 30 seconds), after logging in the machine is unusable for another 5 to sometimes 10 minutes while the drive goes at 100% utilisation and starts all the windows services in the background. I was much better off with my original 5400 RPM drive. Crucial. Never again!

Elektroschrott!

Great upgrade for HP Netbook...
As I already have, and am very pleased with, a Crucial 256GB M4 SATA 6Gb/s 2.5 inch Internal Solid State Drive in my Mac I decided to goose up my aging but still very portable and useful HP Mini 210 netbook.Although I'd previously upgraded it a couple of years ago to the maximum 2Gb RAM and a 500Gb hard disk, I wasn't using much of the disk capacity and Windows 7 boot times had slowed to a crawl (approx 5 mins to fire up, connect to WiFi and open Internet Explorer, even with everything unnecessary stripped out of Windows startup). It was clearly time to re-install Windows and so an ideal time to move to something faster. As the Netbook is only SATA2 the faster Crucial M4 range was overkill so I bought one of these 256Gb units. Amazon delivery was as speedy as ever and installation was a breeze following the crystal clear instructions on overclock.net ([...])The huge difference in performance was immediately apparent: netbook disk swap, Windows 7 + Office 2010 re-install from a USB stick took no more than 30 mins total! The netbook now boots from cold to IE9 in under a minute and, because of the increased performance and solid state nature of the SSD drive, I find that I now use Hibernate rather than Shutdown: resuming from Hibernate takes around 20 seconds!Apart from boot times, overall the netbook feels much snappier due to the massively faster disk paging and the whole machine now runs better than ever: as a OneNote device for meetings it's superb, especially as the battery seems to last longer than ever due to the lower power draw of the SSD.The 500Gb HDD went into a cheap USB2 caddy to transfer back the data I wanted to keep and now acts as the netbook backup device.I read the reviews here before buying and admittedly it's only been about 6 weeks since I upgraded but so far I've had no problems despite considerable use: the little netbook has now become my go-to portable device again over bigger and more powerful laptops!Clearly this has not been everyone's experience and if this changes then I'll update this review but otherwise I am a very happy user.p.s. Also installed one of these for a colleague into a 2 year old Acer desktop which was so slow as to be practically unusable. They bumped the RAM up from the default 1GB to 4GB and replaced XP with Windows 8 Pro at the same time and now the machine flies - they couldn't believe the difference...
