Beyond Westworld
A three disc DVD box set, containing all eight episodes of the science fiction show ‘Westworld.'This is not a jumping on point. New viewers should start with season one.Regular viewers, read on.The first seven episodes run just under an hour each. The season finale is one hour and fourteen minutes. It is once again full of strong language, graphic violence and adult moments, so is thus a fifteen certificate.Following on from the end of the last season, Delores is now out in the world beyond the park. With an agenda. She will stop at nothing to see it carried out.Bernard is laying low. But might end up getting dragged back into things.Maeve doesn’t find herself where she might have expected. And a former US army man called Caleb who is now working construction, and doing some less legal things, finds himself caught up in the things. The society of the future is about to face the prospect of change…This, by virtue of having come out of the familiar surroundings of the first two seasons, starts to become something of a different show. It is still trying to ask the same big questions about existence that the first two seasons did. But the almost complete change in scenery means it just doesn’t feel like the same programme. And that’s an issue throughout.Another is Delores, who is so driven and unreasoning in these episodes that she really stops being very likeable.Other characters don’t quite fit, also. Maeve, after two seasons of driving her own story forward, spends nearly all this season not in control of things. Which makes her arc in this run feel a bit of a waste.Bernard, despite seemingly being the main threat to Delores, doesn’t really do much about it. Which also feels like a bit of a waste. All is not entirely lost, as Charlotte Hale’s story this year actually has a good idea to it, which results in a good character arc.But the season spends so much time on Caleb he feels a bit overused at times. And it’s difficult to see where it’s all going. As it’s unlikeable Delores in the driving seat for so long. One plot point is answered after three episodes, which gives that episode good focus. But the sound mixing on parts three and five is not good. It is really hard to hear the dialogue at points as the music drowns it out. This does think it’s being profound and meaningful, but it never really feels like it.The worst thing though is the action sequences. You can be the richest man in the world, but the one thing money can’t buy you is guards who can shoot straight. They can be shot dead with one pull of someone else’s gun though. There are moments like this that just get risible. The season finale moves at a good pace for thirty minutes, but then starts to fall back into the bad habits of the season. It does end leaving much in the air and promising a lot for season four. But I had almost stopped caring by then. I was just glad this season had finished, and frankly up in the air as to whether I could be bothered to see any more.I love good intelligent thought provoking science fiction. But this just doesn’t manage to be as good at that as it seems to like to think it is.However. There are scenes after the end credits of parts one and eight. And one of these, after part eight, does set something interesting up. One plot strand that I would really want to see more of.And, although I never felt like the season was managing to do what it wanted, as mentioned, the extras are worth a watch. Because they do a deep dive into the ideas of these eight episodes. And some are quite interesting. So when you see what it was trying to do, it does somewhat improve. It’s a pity it didn’t manage to convey them as well as it could have.Languages and subtitles on the dvds are:Languages: English, Castilian Spanish, French.Subtitles: English, Castilian Spanish, Danish, Dutch, French, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish.Extras:All episodes bar part four get ‘creating Westworld’s reality’, a feature that runs four to seven mins each, and goes into the ideas of the episode.Escape from Westworld: Is a two min long intro to the season, and won’t tell you anything new.Exploring Warworld: four mins about the design work on one key location. It’s pretty interesting. We live in a technocracy: eleven mins about the world beyond the park.A vision for the future: eleven mins about the design of said world.Rico: crime and the gig economy: five mins about crime in this world.Westworld on location: eleven mins about the location filming. All the above are really good and interesting and do make you consider and think about the themes of the episodes.Welcome to Westworld: four features, each four mins, with two cast members in each discussing things and playing Westworld trivia. All are short and sweet viewing. So this is a season that is a step down from the first two, and didn’t really work quite as well for me as it could have. But thank goodness for the extras, as they do make the whole thing better

West world but not west world.
Good science fiction but it has steered so far from the original concept of the story it’s been spoiled.

complicated & scary
The third season of Westworld is as ever frightening, violent, scary. Just imagining such a future makes me happy we're not yet there. If you're unable to stream the series highly recommend buying the DVDs.

THE STRUGGLE TO FIND PURPOSE IN THE REAL WORLD
This futuristic Sci-Fi series enters its third season....after the destruction ofwhat they once knew, the few A1's that survived the annihilation of theirfellow virtual reality players and had become aware of their realities nowtry to establish themselves in a trouble-torn and hi-tech World. However, Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and Maeve (Thandie Newton ) findthemselves on opposite sides of purpose which will lead eventually to a showdownbetween the two. With bullets flying and the body-count growing rapidly, you could be forgiven if notsure who is real and who is not among the characters. With flashbacks to an earlier time from key-players including William (Ed Harris)former park visitor and shareholder who himself struggles with reality.A very different but action-packed series which includes impressive special-effects,kinda wondering if the park will indeed be reinvented for a fourth season?

A great twist to the 3 season story
I enjoyed this 3rd series, though it is a little short compared to the other 2. It takes the story in a different way and like the other 2 you have to concentrate but it is worth it. The first 2 or 3 episodes seem a little disjointed but it becomes clear in the end and is an appropriate start.I enjoyed this very much - I need to watch all 3 series again.
