For 30$ it's a good deal...
I got ripped off. One week I saw this for 50$ and thought "It's Naniwa, maybe it's better than the Dan's silicone carbide stone I paid 30$ for. As it turns out, I just saw a high price for a 30$ stone. I'll give it 5-stars and review the product only, not the price. Lows for this 120/220 stone are 28$, which is a good deal.I use this stone as a water stone and it has not clogged yet. Simply soak for a couple minutes, then spray some water on the stone after 20 passes. It appears to cut faster than the Dan's silicone carbide which cuts more like a 400 grit stone. And given Naniwa's Lobster stone has 120/220 combo, for 28$ it is a very good deal. I'm not feeling this is an amazing stone, simply good enough and worth using for general low vanadium knives.Edit; Dimensions are 8.3in by 2.125in. This stone really needs to be 3in wide. A bit more difficult to keep a consistent edge. Cutting performance still holds. Better than Dan's Silicone Carbide stones.Edit; I'll probably keep updating this post to keep track of what I'm doing.- The 220 side is more consistent in scratch pattern than the Shapton Glass 220. To explain why this matters... You use a 120 grit stone to remove material. The other stones are there to bring you to a quality edge. Going from a 120 to a 400 grit will leave lots of ugly scratches and potentially an inconsistent edge. So a consistent scratch pattern, with none randomly more deep than the others is very important. The 220 side of this Naniwa stone is impressing me more and more as I test out new stones.- 220 side more consistent than the Nano Hone 70 micron (200 grit). It's not faster cutting, nor slower wearing... But I don't care about fast cutting around the 220 level. What I care about most is getting rid of deep scratches to prep for the next higher grit.
