Son loves this book
My 10yr old son hates ELA and despises writing, even though he's a natural at it. But THIS book he just loves. When I would pull this out for writing assignments, he would be thrilled. The book doesn't have lessons in it. It just has simple and fun writing prompts with unique styled pages so the child is doing more than just writing on lines, or writing about an animal etc. It's difficult to explain. It reminds you more of the feeling of art class than writing, and not because there's drawing (there isn't) but because the activities it tells you to do are so unique. I don't know that it strongly develops a child's writing, but it does foster a love of writing, and that is the first step to really being good at something.

Lots of Fun -- And Much More Than Mere Story Prompts!
Many “how to write a story” handbooks are simply lists of story starters, with a bit of actual writing advice thrown in. Not this book! Rompella covers the basics of plot, character, and setting, but she also explores deeper storytelling truths. In clear, kid-friendly language, she explains concepts such as characters’ motivations and how characters’ choices create plot. Organized in easy-to-digest sections, this book allows a budding writer to work for minutes or hours, depending on his/her mood. (Added bonus: several of Rompella’s writing strategies provide important life lessons about patience, persistence, and the power of just getting started.) Unique (often funny!) exercises, colorful pages, and an encouraging tone will make this book a favorite for countless young authors.

Great book!
This book is awesome! It starts out talking about writing and how to get started when you may not know where to start or have writer's block. It then has some really fun, cool exercises that get you thinking outside the box. It has some prompts that are basic and others that are super creative, so it hits all spectrums of writing. It has thick pages that you write directly on, so when you finish with this, you have your own writing archive. It has some great tips and tricks along the way too. Overall, it's an awesome supplement to our English curriculum this year!

I bought this book because my children loves to draw and love creating. I love that it’s thick, colourful, various prompts and matt finish of the cover. I recommend this book to anyone who has creative children and wants to express themselves using pencil and paper. It’s also a good distraction away from media.
