What to know before you buy
I received these straws, opened them all and easily rinsed them clean in an oval glass dish with water and a little clear, unscented soap. I let them air dry and sealed them all again. There were absolutely zero odd smells and they all sealed perfectly again; I had to squint to find the seam at all. They smelled fresh and clean and were ready for use.I tried them all in a glass of water. Zero leaks anywhere along any of the straws and no odd/additional flavors. I did notice a few things:1). They feel thicker in the mouth...and are a little bit. Like most healthier options we seek to incorporate, we may need to simply get used to a different texture. No big deal to me for a pure straw experience! Sure, the toxic plastics and metals may seem more comfy, but at what health expense/cost? They feel a bit different but so what; it's a good thing in your drink - and you can FULLY clean them.2). You may need to draw with a little bit more effort to get the liquid up...but not much. Think of it as face calisthenics! Maybe other reviewers were having struggles that aren't present on my set?3). I find the little breathe-port notch fits better for me with the notch outward, against one's upper lip, for a seal. No problems with drinking thru the straws.4). I noticed no leaks. There may be a little air sound exchange when drinking but I don't notice it much or care. People slurp soup but nobody stops eating the soup.5). I received these straws in a cardboard package, NOT plastic, and they shipped from Amazon. Silicone can take on and retain smells. This means if Amazon warehouses them next to something with an odor, it could have picked up that odor and taste. Also, I recommend washing them by hand in a dilution of clear, unscented (like a clear, pure, unscented glycerin) soap and water, air drying them, and be mindful of not putting them by/with strong smelling things. No detergents or soaps, or even swapping straws for different drinks. That is why you get so many of them. I designate my straws by colors to their uses - tea, water, coffee, smoothies. Works great. No issues.6). These fit perfectly with/in EcoWare's pure silicone lids for mason jars (awesome that you can flip those for regular AND wide mouth jars - and no need to use those flimly and breakish travel drinking jars!) and I wash those the same way as above. Snug seal and the breathe-port divet let's you drink with cleanliness, purity and ease. Like the straws, I designate these lids for their uses. Works great.7). You CAN Google how to get smells out of silicone. They are pure, so it should be fine. The right directions involve periodically long-baking them on low heat. I do this occasionally with silicone items. DO NOT try this without researching it and knowing what you're doing. Still, if it is an odor issue for you, you may want to give this a try; it does work.8). The reviewer that warned of silicone bits...you can check for any bits or edges; I had none. Still, this silicone is pure and inert and should have no capacity to harm you, even if you did get a "bit" somehow. Might have been a random flaw in production.Long review, but now you have the stats to make an informed decision.Summary: I think these are terrific. I understand they are not what the world has us used to using, and I am okay with making this much better choice (for me) and adapting to its new experience for the benefits it provides.Update 8/23 - still loving and using these straws without issues. Glad I got them when I did, as they just discovered that paper straws and cups have forever chemicals in them, they disintegrate into your drink and are worse for the environment than the plastic ones. So maybe you don't want to have your kids putting those in their mouths, or chewing on them, thinking (like with the toxic chocolate is safe to eat lies) you are using an eco-friendly product! (sigh)Re: chocolate issue they are obfuscating -There is a Consumer Reports article on lead and cadmium in chocolate, and Asyousow.org and Consumer Labs also has addressed these issues and tested cocoa powders, chocolate bars, chips, nibs, etc. The info needs to be read right, however. The heavy metals content amounts on the Asyousow.org chocolate tables is per Each Serving, and remember, these elements Accumulate in the body with Each Serving.Technically speaking, no chocolate is safe to consume, as there is no way to separate these elements the plants take up while growing, and more is added by irresponsible processing.Cleangreentoxicantfree.com has addressed this issue in their own researched article:"ALL chocolate, cacao and cocoa contains heavy metals, and contains the highest levels of lead compared to other foods."Until consumers boycott and demand compliance in food safety in these products and industries, nothing will change. You vote with your dollars and purchases. Use your voice to demand positive changes in these products, because clearly the "organic" label doesn't mean clean or safe (see romaine, spinach and the long-lived lawsuits, recalls and headlines).Misrepresentation, misinformation, manipulation. You're footing the bill for their dirty work. The responsibility is always on the consumer to make the right choices. Often, companies chasing the dollar care about nothing but that, regardless of the false faces they portray to the world.**If you are really ready to wake up, you can watch "Poisoned, the dirty truth about your food" on Netflix, where you can learn about those behind your food supply scenes, such as Stewart Parnell, whose deliberately altered toxic peanut documents bought him 28 years in prison for sending known toxic peanuts to roughly 3,000 companies, who made peanut butter with them and sold them to...you and your children. There is much more that most of these companies are hiding from you than what you know or believe about what you and your family consume. All steel and metals leach metals into your food, including foil and silverware, that leaches it right into your mouth. Beware the feel-good marketing and greenwashing most companies do to get your money. That is all many if them care about.Caveat Emptor.(*Excerpted from my full review of Anthony's Organic Cocoa Powder and their Prop 65 warning hidden on their website and "hidden mid-page" in all the specs nobody reads on Amazon's product page. Also, my review on Guittard Cocoa Powder, one of the few to test out under levels - but, again, all chocolate contibutes to your/your kids accumulative levels.)A truly unprecendented level of fraud across all industries, government, banking nowadays.Caveat Emptor!

Best reusable straws I’ve owned
Love these straws. I’ve shared them with friends and family who love them too. They are super easy to clean and have come out fine both hand washing and in the dishwasher. They open/close easily and don’t leak when sipping!

Work well and easy to clean in dishwasher
We've had these for a while and we like that we can toss them in the silverware basket in our dishwasher to clean them. The mouth feel is a bit weird at first because of the odd shape but they work well. They won't fit into tight containers, though, like a metal one would. It fits in a soda can tightly. They open and close easily to clean them. Just work a bit like a ziplock baggie.

Product has Zero "flavor", has neutral texture...
I use these straws daily to drink my morning thick & healthy breakfast shakes, that I make in a Nutribullet blender. Some of the ingredients like Tumeric readily stain surfaces it comes in contact with especially if it's wet. I like that these straws are easy to open up to clean them (vs having to use a brush wand to hopefully clean the inside of the "other" straws) and they really do clean up very quickly and easily with out stains from ingredients. There is a short learning curve to getting the hang of the technique of shaping the "opened" straws back to functional straw shape again ... literally takes me about 2 seconds now/ straw to do that. Takes just a little time to get used to using these straws over std straws as they have a little vertical "dent" the length of the straw (it's the seam where the straw opens up fully for cleaning purposes) that allows a small bit of air in when up sip. Once you get the technique down to NOT get a little bit of air in with the fluid, when drawing fluid up straw, I believe you'll be happy with your purchase. (you didn't hit a baseball well the first few times I'm guessing or confidently dive off a diving board first time either). :) I'm so glad I never bought the stainless steel type straws ...that required the "pipe cleaner" like device to get the gunk out of the inside of the straws ... eck. These are high quality durable straws that I anticipate will last a long time with normal appropriate care. I don't know if they can go in the dishwasher, I just find it faster to open the straw up, slide my fingers over the outsides-inside surfaces at the same time, rinse and done. Yes, I would happily buy these straws again.

Just OK
I’ve only had these straws for a few months so I am not sure how they hold up, but so far so good. It was a toss up between these or metal straws. The easy clean-up was the deciding factor for me because I make smoothies all the time. They collapse a little when you drink out but they work. The colors are fun.

Wife Loves Them!
I got this for my wife because she likes using a straw. Disposal straws were not an option and metal ones are frustrating to clean. These do the job while being easy to clean. Perfect product!

Best straws ever for smoothies and shakes
We've been using reusable straws for years, but as you know, they are a pain to clean. These are perfect because they open up so you know you're getting all the gunk out of them. I have used them daily for over a year and they have held up well. They wash up and dry and go back together with no problems. The best reusable straws for smoothies and shakes hands down!

Perfectas
The media could not be loaded.

Pretty cool and strong
The media could not be loaded. I wasn't sure about those straws but I must say that they are perfect for any household even for the kids. To finally have a straw that last and that I am able to clean from the inside out is absolutely amazing. The straw is thicker than the traditional straws as expected. Great durability and comes in 5 colours made from silicone. I was worried that it might leak but that is not the case. My kids and I love it and have used it for our picnic in the park and also make sure I have one in my bay for work. Absolute perfect for that occasion and can be used over and over again. It's very easy to clean just use warm soapy water open it up and clean. Also I found that it drys quite easily or use a clean tissue to dry it up inside and outside. You can't go wrong with it and for the price and quality I would definitely give it a 5 star.

As advertised, great easy to use easy to clean.
This product is great, silicon straws way better environmentally friendly alternative to metal and paper straws with their downsides. They are pretty thick in diameter, but that's only an indication of quality ensuring a good seal along the seam. I recommend unfurling with bare hands before washing; trying to do this with washing up gloves is a bit difficult.
