6 5/8 IN. X 5 IN. A white stoneware clay body was thrown on an electric wheel and altered for the curvatures. The purpose of the undulating surface is to accommodate the specific glazes used on this piece. In glazes that are made from dry ingredients the uppermost colors are very runny if applied thick. Therefore, they were brushed on with a small bamboo brush for the proper application in order to interact with the companion glazes below. The effect is a wonderful melding of calm colors that fall to the Crimson Red glaze used as a stiff block to avoid running off the pot during firing. This piece was fired in an electric kiln to cone 9 for the desired appearance. Great for holidays or to brighten up a room with the pleasant range of visual interest of its exterior.
